(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

31.  Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate.

32.  He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate?

33.  He said: I am not going to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter’s clay of black stinking mud!
30.  Fasajadal-malaaa-‘ikatu  kulluhum  ‘ajma-‘uuna.

31.  ‘Illaa  ‘Ibliis.  ‘Abaaa  ‘any-yakuuna  ma-‘as-Saa-jidiin.

Commentary

When that body of mud (idol of Adam) became correct and Allah Almighty breathed of His Spirit into it, then the entire Angels fell prostrate, all of them together, according to His commandment, but Iblis (Satan), who was from the genealogy of Jinn, and due to his obedience and worship, was admitted in the Angels, He refused to be among the prostrate unto Adam.

Allah Almighty asked from him: O Iblis! What is the reason that you did not obey My commandment, while you were admitted in the class of Angels due to your obedience, and you did not fall down, prostrating yourself along with Angels unto Adam? Iblis replied: How can I fall prostrate before this inferior creature? You have created him before me out of potter’s clay of black stinking mud. How can I accept him superior to me?

Cursed Iblis did not understand that his first duty was to obey the commandment of his Creator and Lord. After the decisive Order of the Lord, any servant has no power to wrangle or disobey His Command.
