Commentary

Kaaaf-Haa-Yaa-‘Ayyyn-Saaad. These are called “Muqatt’aat letters”, Allah Almighty knows meanings of these kinds of letters or may be that into them, there is an indication towards the content of concerning Chapter, that is to say, Grace of Allah Almighty and Guidance from Him for His Believers who worship Him and who are His truthful servants.

‘Ishta-‘ala – (burst forth into flame). it is past tense from the word “‘Ishta-‘aal”, which has come out from sha-‘a-la. Shu’-lah means “flame of the fire. ‘Ishta-‘aal means “burning, glowing, lighting a fire or candle etc.” because from this word “spreading” comes in mind, so spreading of grey hair on the head has been manifested with the word “‘Ishta-‘aal”.

After Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), many Prophets (peace be upon them) were sent unto the Children of Israel. One of them was Zachariah (peace be upon him) and His son John (peace be upon him). Their circumstances were explained in Surah ‘Aali – ‘Imraan. Surah Maryam had been revealed before it in Makkah. No child was born in the house of Zachariah (peace be upon him) till old age. He longed for a son, so that the work of instructing the public unto the straight path may be continued by the members of his family. He (peace be upon him) prayed secretly in privacy: O my Lord! I have reached old age. My bones have become feeble and the hair grey. My Lord! I have come unto You with a desire. During past as and when I prayed, You supplied my every want, and You did never return me from Your Door deprived of any wish.

Quran Chapter 19  Head start (Pt-16, Stg-4) (L-1926) درس قرآن

Introduction – Chapter “Mary”

Chapter Maryam (Mary) – 19

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

With regard to arrangement order of the Chapters, this is nineteenth Surah of Holy Qur’an. It was revealed in the preliminary times of Messenger-hood during stay at Makkah. It contains six Sections.

When Idolaters of Makkah denied from accepting Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) as a Messenger, and for denying; they produced different types of excuses, then they were caused to understand in many Chapters, which were revealed in Makkah that: Allah Almighty has determined this way for guidance of the mankind with effect from the beginning that “for causing to know the human beings, some persons chosen from them should be appointed as Prophets (peace be upon them) from time to time. And for those chosen persons; some such particular signs should be fixed; by observing of which; the wise people may know easily that these are special people, their habits and manners are best and separate from others”.

For manifesting this matter, the people were caused to hear the mention of great Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) again and again in different ways, so that they may understand that “being Messenger of a mankind is not any strange thing. They were appointed and sent among the ancient people also at suitable times”.

The Message of the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) is that “this entire universe has been created by Allah Almighty. He is the Creator of the mankind too. Life of every human being is for a fixed time in the world, after that they will die and will be reproduced again after some time. And then they will never die but live always. That perpetual life will be pleasant and comfortable for those people who would have dwelled the transitory life of the world according to the Sayings of the Messengers (peace be upon them). But those who would have disobeyed them (peace be upon them), they will pass their next life in suffering and sorrow.

In this Chapter, mention has been made in respect of Prophets Zachariah, John, Jesus, Abraham, Ishmael and Idris from the ancient Prophets (peace be upon them).

Then it has been admonished to the mankind after describing the circumstance of the Last Day that if they want to be saved from their enemy and are desirous of good in the Hereafter, then they should follow as Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has directed and make the Holy Qur’an “Rules of Practice” for themselves. He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is the Last Messenger of God Almighty and Holy Qur’an is His Last Scripture, which has been sent for the guidance of the entire human beings. If you did not believe in it then you would pass your worldly life in disputes, fear and confusion, and find not ease and comfort in the Day of Resurrection.

Important points mentioned in “The Cave” - Quran Chapter 18 – Summary (Pt-16, Stg-4) (L-1925) درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 18  Summary (Pt-16, Stg-4) (L-1925) درس قرآن

Important points mentioned in “The Cave”

Chapter Kahf (The Cave) – 18

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Surah Kahf (Chapter “The Cave”) have come to an end. It describes to the mankind that God’s greatest favor upon him is that He appointed His Chosen and Beloved Servant Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) as His Last Messenger for the guidance of the entire human beings and bestowed him last Scripture named Holy Qur’an, so that by means of it; he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) should convey the News to all the people of the world that “wrongdoers would have to confront severe calamities in the world and in the Hereafter too, and those people who will do righteous works, will find comfortable and relaxed life and after death (during the next life); things for enjoyment will be provided to them for always. Due to this graciousness, you should be thankful to God Almighty and believe in it that He is only One, Supporter and Protector, none is His sharer in any matter and He is not necessitous of any other.

It is commanded to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): After delivering this Message, you should not be grieved in the sorrow of people who refuse to believe in Holy Qur’an, because this world is for a few days only. It will be perished and those entire people will be produced before Us face to face. On that Day We shall settle with them fully.

Then after describing important points regarding the story of the people of the Cave, it has been caused to understand that the people; who believe in Allah Almighty and produce themselves as His slaves, certainly Allah Almighty helps them. After that, it has been caused to know that the people who are thankful to God Almighty and are devoted to Him only, they are satisfied. But the people who trust only in worldly wealth and property, pomp and show, when they lose in the punishment of their obstinacies, then they acquire nothing but affliction and grief.

Behold! You should be saved from the tricks of Satan. He is your enemy. Neither he participated in your creation or the creation of the world, and nor there is any role of him in its management. His only work is to make your works worse. Therefore, for escaping from his wickedness, you should seek refuge in God Almighty.

After narrating the circumstances of meeting between Moses and Khizar (peace be upon them), it has been explained that God’s every work depends on any opportune of the world. The mankind should have faith in it and follow the Religious Law patiently; prescribed by Him. Story of Alexander (Dhu’l-Qarneyn) teaches that as much strength and power Allah Almighty has given to a person, he should use it in the support of needy servants of God Almighty.

At the end, it is commanded: There is no end of the Knowledge of Allah Almighty. You should learn as much only which is useful for you and which exists in Holy Qur’an. And you should make none sharer of the worship due unto your Lord.

Commentary

When some fortunate people heard the attractive verses of Holy Qur’an, they accepted the Message of Truth immediately. But many people saw their loss in its acceptance. They began to evade. It is being described to them: You should not ask about useless matters. These will not be advantageous for you. I have not come unto you to show uncommon games or to cause to hear you false/true stories. I am also a mankind like you. You are aware of my circumstances that I have not learned reading or writing from any other. That, Who is Creator of the universe, has inspired in me that Worthy of being adored is only One (God). Only He is; Who created everything. Only He is Lord of yours, mine and of the all. He sent Holy Qur’an as a Code of Life for the entire human beings, because after death you all will be presented before your Lord for giving an account of your worldly deeds.

The person who obeyed the Commandments of Holy Qur’an; will be made rich with rewards and he/she will dwell in ease and peace forever during the next life. However, the person, who chose any other path; leaving the Straight Path; he/she will be a victim of severe calamities.

If you are ready to believe in it and wish to be successful after meeting with your Lord, then you should do those righteous works which have been explained by means of Holy Qur’an and make none sharer of the worship due unto your Lord. This is the Message for which I have been appointed to convey.

The Sciences are unlimited

Chapter Kahf (The Cave) – 18

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

109.  Say: Though the sea became ink for the Words of my Lord, verily the sea would be used up before the Words of my Lord are exhausted, even though We bring the like thereof to help.
109.  Qul-law  kaanal-bahru  midaadal-li-Kalimaati  Rabbii  lanafidal-bahru  qabla  ‘an  tan-fada  Kalimaatu  Rabbii  wa  law  ji’-Naa  bi-mislihii  madadaa.

Commentary

Nafida – (be used up), it is past tense from nafadun, which means “to come to an end, to be finished”. Origin of tanfada is also the same which means “are exhausted”.

Bahrun – in Arabic language it means “a Sea”. The entire Sea is one; however it has been divided in many parts by rising of the land parts at different places – as it has been risen more at some places and less on other places.

The people of Arab did not obey the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and began to ask from Him about old stories. He answered to their three questions, that is to say, The Soul, The Companions of the Cave and Zhu’l-Qarneyn, and caused to understand them that only it is enough for you to know. Knowing more than it is not useful for you.

The Knowledge of Allah Almighty is as much vast that if the entire Sea becomes ink and a person begins to write about His Sciences; then water of the Sea will be exhausted, but those Sciences will not come to an end. Not only one Sea but if the ink equal to one more Sea is included for writing, that too will be finished, but those Sciences will never be finished.

Allah Almighty has given you a little knowledge, but that which has been given, if you bring it in use correctly, verily it will be sufficient for your success in both worlds. You should understand and correct your entire deeds according to the Instructions described to you in this Holy Qur’an. You will succeed in getting profitable things of the both worlds from the same. And you will be successful in this life (of the world) and you will deserve also perpetual pleasure and comfort after death.

108.  Khaalidiina  fiihaa  laa  yabguuna  ‘anhaa  hiwalaa.

Commentary

Firdaws – (green Garden, Paradise), it is used for very thick, shadowy trees and gardens of tranquility and relief. Firdaws is the name of a portion of Jannah which is very glorious.

Nuzulun – (entertainment), an arrangement of food, drinkables, staying and resting; which is made to welcome a guest, is called nuzulun.

Hiwala – (migration, to change the place of dwelling),

The people who are absorbed in worldly affairs, they do not have any such thing which may be useful in the Last Day. Therefore, they will be burning in the Fire of the Hell always. Opposite to them, the Believers, who did good works in accordance with the instructions of Holy Qur’an and Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), and they were connected with the things of the world as much only which was necessary for their temporary life, and they passed remaining entire period in doing works to please Allah Almighty, such people will be entertained in the Hereafter like honorable guests. Everything is ready for their ease and comfort already. As a reward of doing good works in the world, their abode will be beautiful Gardens of Paradise; by pleasant and blooming air of which; their hearts will feel pleasure.

And when they will be informed that these Gardens are only for them and they will dwell into them forever; then they will feel unlimited happiness. It will be arranged that their hearts are not fed up there. Therefore they will feel that the things of rejoicing are new every time. And they will never desire to leave the Gardens and go anywhere else.

Commentary

Some ignorant people do not learn even from the experience. Therefore Holy Qur’an causes to understand them continuously that they should fulfill their lawful desires according to the ways explained. They should not long more for the world. The life of the Hereafter is the perpetual life and the wishes of such people will be fulfilled there; who pass their worldly lives in abstinence.

Allah Almighty commands: Remember it! The person who disbelieved in Our Revelations, disobeyed Our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and did not have faith in the meeting with their Lord, their entire worldly works would be useless. Any work of theirs will have no value. And save those works which were performed in accord with the instructions mentioned in Holy Qur’an, any other work will have no weight.

Human beings consider ignorantly that they have been doing great works in the world; they are very famous in wisdom, management and earning money. But Holy Qur’an causes to know them: Your entire such works will be weightless and valueless after death. Therefore the people of such nature will get nothing but the doom of the Hell in the next life. They chose infidelity in the world, made a jest of God’s Revelations and His Messengers (peace be upon them). They paid entire attention in worldly development instead of the next life. Therefore they will be in vain after death.
