The result of evil deed is bad

Suratun-Nahl - (The Bee) - 16

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

33b.  Even so did those before them. And Allah wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves.

34.  So that the evils of what they did smote them, and that which they used to mock surrounded them.
33b.  Kazaalika  fa-‘alallaziina  min  qablihim.  Wa  maa  zalama-humUllaahu wa  laakin  kaanuuu  ‘anfu-sahum  yazlimuun.

34.  Fa-‘asaabahum  sayyi-‘aatu  maa  ‘amiluu  wa  haaqa  bihim-maa  kaanuu  bihii  yastahzi-‘uun.
(Section 4)

Commentary

Sayyi-‘aatu – (Evils), this word is plural of sayyi-‘atun, which has been derived from saw-‘un. Saw-‘un means “to trouble, to molest”. Sayyi-‘atun means evil but it aims “bad consequence”.

Haaqa – (surrounded), it is past tense from the word heeq. Heeq means “to surround, to blockade, to encircle”. Haaqa  bihim – surrounded them.

To the people of Makkah, and by means of them; to the human beings of the entire world, it is being caused to understand in this verse that; because ancient nations disobeyed their Messengers (peace be upon them), so they spoiled their work in the world; and at last; their obstinacy and refractoriness bloomed. The Divine Law accomplished Its work and they had to bear the result of their deeds. Allah Almighty had already caused to know them that they should behold that “the result of evil deed is bad”. But they did not care. They used to mock the advice of Messengers (peace be upon them) and considered that the doom was only a menace. They were arrogant on their power and said: There is no one who may trouble us. Pleasures and comfort of the world are not written in your luck. See! How much precious things have been spreading all around and you are deprived of them.

Alas! At last the same doom surrounded them; of which they used to mock.

33a.  Hal  yanzuruuna  ‘illaaa  ‘an  ta’-tiya-humul-  malaaa-‘ikatu  ‘aw  ya’-tiya  ‘Amru  Rabbik.

Commentary

Tata-waffaa – (to cause to die, to seize the life), this word is from tawaffii which has come out from wa-fa-ya. Wafaatun means “to come to an end, to die”. Tawafii means “to finish”. Here it aims “to finish someone’s worldly life, to cause to die”.

It is commanded that the people who will stand firm until death on the Belief and refrain from any kind of sins, when the angels will cause to die them, even at that time too, the depravity of polytheism and infidelity will not pass into their hearts. The angels will give them good news at the time of taking their souls and they will say: Peace be unto you! Go now in the Garden for dwelling.

What is opinion of the disbelievers now who have been involved in evil deeds, if they wish to arrange their End? After hearing these commandments; they should believe, otherwise when either the angels will reach or the last moment of the world befall, then no good act will be useful and they will weep lamenting.

Commentary

’Adnin – (Eden, a delightful place of living for ever), it is a name from the names of Paradise (Jannah).

It is commanded that there would be very beautiful Gardens, in which they will dwell for ever and no one will be able to cause them to come out from that place and nor that place will be snatched from them ever. They will be provided there every such best thing which will they desire.

Allah Almighty has prepared such remuneration for the good people who fear Him and who save themselves from such deeds which are forbidden by Him. In this verse two specific matters of Paradise have been described:

·       Delight and comfort of that place will never come to an end.

·       Hearts of its dwellers will never be displeased.

Sometimes in this world, a man does not have money for purchasing comfortable things. Moreover, sometimes he possesses money but cannot get things of his necessity. Other people snatch from him or he suffers due to any reason for example a famine etc. happens.

Secondly, every that thing will be available there immediately for which will he be longing. In the world, none can obtain everything. Often a human being desires anxiously here, but there; every desired thing will be available at the spot without any delay.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

  وَقِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ مَاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ قَالُوا۟خَيْرًا لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ فِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌ وَلَدَارُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ وَلَنِعْمَ دَارُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ 30

30.  And when it is asked from those who ward off (evil): What hath your Lord revealed? They say: Good. For those who do good in this world there is a good (reward). And the Home of the Hereafter will be better. And excellent indeed will be the Home of Those who ward off (evil)-
30.  Wa  qiila  lillazii-nattaqaw  maa  zaaa  ‘anzala  Rabbukum.  Qaaluu  khayraa.  Lil-laziina  ‘ahsanuu  fii  haazi-hid-dunyaa  hasanah.  Wa-la-Daarul-‘Aakhirati  khayr.  Wa  la-ni’-ma  Daarul-  Muttaqiin.

Commentary

Khayran – (Good), every that thing, which is useful and advantageous, is Khayr (good). The word Khayran is actually ‘Anzala khayran (it is a complete sentence). ‘Anzala has been omitted. At the second place, Khayraa is an adjective, in which “object of competition” does exist (which aims “the best”).

It is command: When it is asked from those people who ward of evil and who are obedient slaves of Allah Almighty! What has been revealed from your Lord? They answer: Our Lord has revealed such Book, in which, all such matters have been mentioned which are better for the mankind. They have replied correctly. Love of the world had not made them so much blind that by hiding the Truth themselves, they would have spread false matters. They are good people, and those who do good; will live in this world in good condition, as well as for them, there is peace and comfort in the Hereafter too.

Indeed, the people who ward off evil due to having fear of their Creator (Allah Almighty), best lodging will be provided to them after death (in the Hereafter). Known from this verse is that no one should be involved in telling a lie and deceiving others for reaping casual advantages of the world. And they should give up all evil deeds due to fear of Allah Almighty. For this good effort they would have to sacrifice. This sacrifice has great worth in the Court of Allah Almighty and they will get a great reward.

29.  Fad-khuluuu  ‘abwaaba  Jahannama  khaalidiina  fiihaa.  Fala-bi’-sa  maswal-mutakab-biriin.

Commentary

Zaalimiii – (wrongdoers), it is plural of zaalim. Actually this word is zaalimiiin, but due to adjunct; the last “n” was dropped.

‘Alqaw – (they cast), it is past tense from the word ‘ilqaaa-‘un which has come out from laqaa. Laqaa means “to come up near someone”. ‘Ilqaaa-‘un is its active verb i.e. to put near someone. In the proverb; it aims “to cause to hear”.

It is commanded: The disbelievers will deny clearly, when they will see the doom, that they did not wrong themselves. It would be the same trick which the criminals use before the rulers of the world. That is to say, they do not accept their crimes. And if any witness does not exist, they are saved from the punishment. But Allah Almighty will command: I am Knower of your violations. You are indeed guilty. So enter the gates of Hell and dwell there for ever. Certainly the abode of the arrogant is very woeful.

Commentary

Yukhzii – (He will disgrace), it is from the word ‘ikh-zaa-‘un, which has been derived from khiz-yun. Khiz-yun means “disgrace, infamy”. ‘Ikh-zaa-‘un means – to disgrace.

Tushaaaq-quuna – (you used to oppose), origins of this word are mash-shaaqatun and shiqaaqun. These both words have come out from shaqqun, which means “of one side, opposite, splitting”. Mash-shaaqatun means “to get ready for opposing the other”.

On the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will disgrace them and will say: Where are your (false) worshipped, for the sake of whom you used to oppose, and to whom you used to ascribe plural with Me? At that time, they will not be able to reply this question. Eventually, such people; to whom Allah Almighty had given knowledge of the truth, and who used to forbid the wicked people from ascribing plurality to Allah Almighty, will say: Today is the Day of disgrace for the disbelievers.

Commentary

‘Ataa – (came), it is past tense from ‘ata-yun, and ‘ityaanun means “came”. The aim from ‘atAllaahu is “Command of Allah reached”.

Kharra – (fell down), it is also past tense from the word kharrun, which means “to fall down”.

It is commanded: These tricks, which they are going to use, are not new. The nations before these people treated Allah Almighty, His Prophets (peace be upon them) and Holy Books with contempt like them. As they remained deprived of guidance, they kept unlucky others also by their bad influence.

But its result was that; after giving them respite for a short time (so that haply they understand), Allah Almighty struck at the foundations of their building and their roofs fell down upon their heads. They had been sitting careless with the thought that “No one can harm us. We have made best arrangements for ourselves. We have all necessary things for our protection. If someone will try to overawe, we shall pinch his eyes”. But they did not know that behind the screen, arrangements of their destruction have been gathering due to their wrong deeds.

At last, the doom came on them suddenly from such place, about which they did never think and they were ruined in the world within a moment.

Commentary

‘Asaatiiru – (fables, moral stories), this word is plural of ‘ustuuratun, which has come out from satar. Satar means “to write”. And it is used for a straight line also. ‘Ustuuratun means “the story which is written”.

Yaziruuna – (they bear burdens), it has been derived from the word wazarun, which means “burden”. ‘Awzaa-run is plural of wazarun, which has come earlier from it in the same verse.

When Holy Qur’aan began to be revealed, the people of the every house of Makkah began to talk about it. Which foreigners used to come to Makkah, they used to ask from the Quraish of Makkah after hearing the talking about Holy Qur’aan that “What is It”? The people of Makkah used to inquire from one another also about the same. Chiefs of Makkah used to reply them: There is nothing in It but the fables of the men of old have been collected. Thus they become cause of preventing others from the Right Path. As they will bear the burdens of own wrong deeds, due to misleading other people, some burdens of evils committed by others will also be loaded upon them on the Day of Resurrection.

Quran Chapter 16  22 & 23 (Pt-14, Stg-3) (L-1702) درس قرآن

Pride prevents from doing good works

Suratun-Nahl - (The Bee) - 16

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

In the previous lesson, the arrogance (Takabbar) has been condemned strongly. It prevents the mankind from doing good works. Moreover, Allah Almighty does not like the proud person. Satan did not bow before Adam (peace be upon him), whereas it was commanded to him by Allah Almighty that he should prostrate. It was the only reason that he considered himself superior to Adam (peace be upon him). It is called pride. Due to haughtiness, Satan disobeyed the Command of Allah Almighty and was determined as “Outcast and Accursed” for ever.

It has also been mentioned in the verse that the pride arises into the mankind when he does not believe in the Hereafter. Disbelief in the Day of Resurrection means that “any wrongdoer will not be punished whether he commits any evil”. If this thought is fixed in the heart, then its consequence would be that such person would consider himself most superior and say: I am most powerful, so I should do what I can before death.

On this account, he begins to give importance to his strength and powers. He considers that other all people are nothing before him. If someone desires to advise him, he becomes ready to disgrace him. Such kind of person cannot believe in Allah Almighty, because if he would believe then he would have to be bound of His Commandment. Whereas he does not want to abide by the instructions from anyone else save to follow own desires.

But it is understood from the above mentioned verse, as well as from other verses, narratives and Sayings (‘Ahaadith) also that every pride is not censured. But there is such a pride, which is called “self restraining”. The word “takabbar” has been derived from kibr. Kibr means “grandeur, pride, greatness”. Which pride keeps off any person from accepting the Truth and the Just, and it excites to deprive the rights of the people, that pride is the worst and it is against the mankind’s worthy of dignity in all respect.

But that pride which prevents a person from evils and disgraceful works, and forbids him from bowing before oppressors and wrongdoers, that is plaudit-able. We name such pride as “self-restraining, civility and self-respect etc.” and some people say that it is selfishness because the word “pride” is usually used in bad meanings.

Quran Chapter 16  22 & 23 (Pt-14, Stg-3) (L-1701) درس قرآن

The head of haughtiness will fall down

Suratun-Nahl - (The Bee) - 16

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

22.  Your God is One God. But as for those who believe not in the Hereafter their hearts refuse to know, for they are proud.

23.  Assuredly Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim. Lo! He loveth not the proud.
22.  ‘Ilaahukum ‘Ilaahunw-Waahid.  Fallaziina  laa  yu’-minuuna  bil-‘Aakhirati  quluubu-hum-  munkiratunw-wa  hum-  mustakbiruun.

23.  Laa  jarama  ‘annAllaaha  ya’-lamu  maa  yusir-ruuna  wa  maa  yu’-linuun.  ‘InnaHuu  laa yuhibbul-mustak-biriin.

Commentary

Laa  jarama – (assuredly), laa means “no, not, nay”. Jarama means – to cut. It aims “none can refuse from it; there is no doubt in it”. Absolutely it is.

With effect from the beginning of this Surah (Chapter), Bounties and Beauties of Allah Almighty are being explained. The person who will meditate with cool heart, certainly he will find that there is none worthy of worship save Allah Almighty. He is only One Worshipped. No one is His partner or rival. But the people in whose hearts; love of this world and its things has been enriched, they confute the life after death. They do not believe in it and have fallen into proud. However they should bear in mind that it is sure and certain that Allah Almighty is Aware of their entire works and the secrets hidden in their hearts. And He does not like the haughty people.

Perhaps they consider that “whether we falsify how much the Truth and violate the rights of the people, no one can ask from us about it, neither in the world and nor in the Hereafter. We are the most powerful”, but their such thought is false. And the same has been preventing them from believing.
