Quran Chapter 20  47 (Pt-16, Stg-4) (L-1982) درس قرآن

Informing that they were Messengers of Lord

Chapter TAA-HAA – 20

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

فَأْتِيَاهُ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولَا رَبِّكَفَأَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ وَلَا تُعَذِّبْهُمْ قَدْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِـَٔايَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَٱلسَّلَٰمُ عَلَىٰ مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ 47

47.  So go ye unto him and say: Lo! We are two Messengers of thy Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with us, and torment them not. We bring thee a Token from thy Lord. And Peace will be for him who followeth right Guidance.
47.  Fa’-tiyaahu  fa-quulaaa  ‘innaa  Rasuulaa  Rabbika  fa-‘arsil  ma-‘anaa  Baniii  ‘Israaa-‘iil.  Wa  laa  tu-‘azzib-hum.  Qad  ji’-naaka  bi-‘Aayatim-mir-Rabbik.  Was-Salaamu  ‘alaa  manittaba-‘al-Hudaa.

Commentary

Fa’-tiyaahu – (So go you unto him), ‘I’-tiyaa means “Come on both of you”, it is word of Command plural from ‘at-yun, which means “to come”. But because “coming” is unto a third person, therefore it aims “Go!”

Rasuulan – (two Messengers), this word is plural of Rasuul, which actually is “Rasuulaani”. However, having relation with the next word “Rabbika”, the last “ni” has been dropped.

It is commanded: Remove the thought of fear and danger from your heart; and go unto Pharaoh fearlessly. He can never hurt you. I am with you. Say to him: We both (Moses and Aaron) are Messengers (peace be upon them) sent by your Lord. Do not torment the Children of Israel. You have kept them as the worst slaves. Let them go with us, so that they also may live like other common people in good condition. Remember it that peace will be only for such people who will admit the truth and clear word after hearing. But those who will not admit the Truth; will be lost.

That entire has been described in this short Message, which Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) of Allaah Almighty desires to convey unto all human beings, and name of which is “Islam”. There are following three main points in this Message:

1.  Your Lord is One, of Whom you are creature. So you should obey His Commandment.

2.  He sends Prophets/Messengers (peace be upon them) for your guidance.

3.  He commands that you should obey the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), you should never torment any human being; otherwise you will be punished properly.

Commentary

Allaah Almighty bestowed Prophet-hood to Moses and his brother Aaron (peace be upon them) both, and after that; He commanded to Moses (peace be upon him): Go now along with your brother and remember Me in all conditions. You should never be negligent or careless from My Remembrance. It is your duty that you should go unto Pharaoh, the King of Egypt. He has transgressed the bounds. He tyrannizes the helpless people and disregards every individual.

Moses (peace be upon him) was aware of the temperament of Pharaoh. He requested: we both brothers are afraid of Pharaoh because he is arrogant and perhaps he either would not let us to go unto himself or be enraged after hearing incomplete saying, then he may tyrannize us or command to kill us.

After that it was commanded: you should not fear in this matter. I am with you every time. I hear your every saying and see your every deed. I shall be hearing entire conversation among you and Pharaoh. I shall be seeing Pharaoh’s behavior with you. Don’t worry and do your duty unhesitatingly.

Good servants of Allaah Almighty ask for His help in difficulties when they observe that they are weak, and He helps them.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

42.  Go, thou and thy brother, with My Tokens, and be not faint in Remembrance of Me.

43.  Go, both of you, unto Pharaoh. Lo! He hath transgressed (the bounds).

44.  And speak unto him a gentle word, that peradventure he may heed or fear.
42.  ‘Izhab  ‘anta  wa  ‘akhuuka  bi-‘AayaaTii  wa  laa  taniyaa  fii  zikRii.

44.  Faquulaa  lahuu  qawlal-layyinal-la-‘allahuu  yatazak-karu  ‘aw  yakhshaa.

Commentary

Laa  taniyaa – (Be not faint, lazy, weak in spirit, depressed), it is a negative tense from the word wan-yun, which means “to delay, to be lazy”.

It is commanded: The time, for which purpose you were prepared, has come. You and your brother {Moses and Aaron (peace be upon them)} both should go unto Pharaoh along with those Tokens which I have granted to you. And commit to your memory that secret of success, at the time of encounter, is hidden in My Remembrance. You should not be lazy even a little in this matter. And as you have been instructed, you should be quick for My worship and offering prayer timely. And at the time of every calamity or necessity, you should make mention of Mine and remember Me in your heart. Now go both of you unto Pharaoh. He has armed to transgress and oppress. He is proud of his power and strength, violence with him will not be suitable. Cause him to understand with mildness and gentleness. It is difficult to control the arrogant and haughty people harshly. However by speaking with gentleness and by causing to know him politely, perhaps he may heed and the fear of Allaah Almighty may arise in his heart.

41.  WastaNa’-tuka  li-nafSii.

Commentary

‘Alaa  qadarin – (by providence, in accord with estimation), qadarun means “to make a plan very carefully”. It aims “you reached here according to the time, way, place and age; which We had fixed to appoint you a Prophet”.

‘IstaNa’-tuka – (I made you), it is past tense from the word sa-na-‘a, which means “to make”. ‘Istanaa’ means “to make after considering very thoughtfully”.

Allah Almighty describes about those favors which He bestowed upon Moses (peace be upon him) with effect from the beginning and satisfies him that like earlier, His favors on Moses (peace be upon him) will be kept up regularly. When Moses (peace be upon him) became young, then accidentally a quarrelsome man was killed by the hand of Moses (peace be upon him). He was very confused that if he was arrested; would be punished. Being afraid, he flew from the township. Allaah Almighty caused to arrive him unto Shueyb (peace be upon him) at Midian. Then he was free from all confusions. Shueyb (peace be upon him) arranged to wed him with his daughter. Moses (peace be upon him) lived there for ten years. Then he moved back and during journey he was appointed as a Prophet (peace be upon him).

Story in detail will be discussed in Suratul-Qasas (Chapter-28). It is commanded: We tried you with a heavy trial in various ways. That entire was preparation so that you should reach that place at prescribed time. We arranged this all for your training, because We had to take work of guidance from you after choosing and appointing you Our Messenger.

Commentary

Tusna-‘a – (you might be trained), this word has been derived from suna-‘un, which means “to make a thing skillfully, to invent”. Here it aims “fostering, bringing up”.

‘Alaa  ‘ayNii – (according to My will, on My Eyes), in Arabic idioms; ‘alaa  ‘ayNii means (on My Eyes) means “before My Eyes”, that is to say; “according to My Will”.

Yakfulu – (she may accept responsibility of a nurse), origin of this word is kafala, from which the word kafaalatun has come out. Kafaalatun means “to take any work in charge”.

Taqarra – (might be refreshed), this word has been made from qirrun, which means “coolness, to become cold”. The aim from “eyes might be refreshed” is “satisfaction and relief”. Like this, warmth of eyes is “sign of confusion and distress”.

It is commanded: We did put love for you in the heart of everyone. Then your sister, to whom your mother sent behind the box to trace you, moved away and reached there. They were in search of any such woman who might suckle and nourish the child, because Moses (peace be upon him) was not taking milk of any woman. After finding a chance of conversation, his sister said: I tell you about such a woman who will nourish him very well. Therefore, she went and brought back mother of Moses (peace be upon him). Then he became silent in the lap of his mother.

Commentary

During that time, when Moses (peace be upon him) was born, Pharaoh had given order due to the sayings of the fortune-tellers: Which son of the Children of Israel is born; should be put to death.

When Moses (peace be upon him) was born, his mother was confused that if the servants of Pharaoh came to know, they will slay him. At that time, Allaah Almighty inspired in the heart of his mother, full plan of which took place in her heart. Allaah Almighty commanded: Put Moses (peace be upon him) into a box comfortably and cast the box into the river.

One branch of that river had been passing through the garden of Pharaoh’s personal palace. The box would move forth into the palace of Pharaoh floating by the same branch of the river, and the wife of Pharaoh, named Aasiah (May Allaah be pleased with her), would draw him from the river, and Moses (peace be upon him) will be brought up by her.

In this verse, along with deeds; the same incident has been unfolded. The box of Moses (peace be upon him) was cast into the river and then the same happened which was inspired unto his mother. Aasiah (May Allaah be pleased with her) was a very God-fearing woman from the Children of Israel. She produced Moses (peace be upon him) before Pharaoh and said: It is very good if we adopt it our son.

Commentary

‘Azrun – (the waist, the loins), actual meanings of this word are strength and power. Strength of the loins is a sign of power because foundation of the strength of mankind’s body limbs is “the waist”. Therefore, meaning of the word “shaddul-‘azru” has become “strong waist”.

Moses (peace be upon him) requests in the Court of Allaah Almighty:  Make strong my loins with the help of my brother and let him share my task; that we both obey Your Commandment together, and the other may fulfill that deficiency which is left by the one. That way; one will be strengthened by the other. His pleasure and spirit will increase. In such condition, we shall be able to glorify You much and we both together shall be able to remember and adore You abundant, because one of us will keep the other reminding. And none of us will be able to be careless even by forgetting from Your Remembrance.

Our Lord! You are well Aware of our state. I have requested that what was in my heart. Settle now by the way of Your Knowledge that whether the work of inviting and preaching the people would be in good manner by participating of my brother Aaron along with me or otherwise?

Then it was commanded: Well O Moses! You are granted your request.
