Commentary

There is evidence of regrets on the condition of mankind in this verse that the people who lived in the world after the times of Prophets (peace be upon them), they left the Path of God’s Messengers. They gave up standing in the condition of bending hands like helpless servants before Allah Almighty, bowing before Him respectfully, and the way of God’s worship which was established by the Prophets (peace be upon them). Instead of the same, they began to fulfill their unreasonable desires.

They should understand even now that they cannot stand firm on the Right Path being slaves of their desires. They shall come to know sometime or other certainly that they had been going astray. It is better for them if they come to know the same in this world because perhaps they leave doing wrong and come back unto the Straight Path. By doing so, they can correct their deeds. If they will do so then they will enter in the Garden, and full reward of their good deeds, which they performed in the world, will be given to them; without decreasing anything. Allah Almighty will bestow upon them with His kindness as much that they will consider that their deeds were valueless before it. But this is the condition for it that they should understand the matter in this world, otherwise they will get nothing.

58.  These are they unto whom Allah showed favour from among the Prophets, of the seed of Adam and of those whom We carried (in the ship) with Noah, and of the seed of Abraham and Israel, and from among those whom We guided and chose. When the Revelations of the Beneficent were recited unto them, they fell down, adoring and weeping.

(‘As-Sajdah – Bow-down)

Commentary

Bukiyyun – (weeping), actually this word was buk-wiyyun, but after changing of the vowels, it became bukiyyun.

These are such people to whom We (Allah Almighty) chose as Our Prophets (peace be upon them) and showed Our particular favor upon them. They (peace be upon them) were from the children of Adam and from the children of those people who embarked on the ship along with Noah (peace be upon them) and were saved from the water storm. And they are from the lineage of Abraham and Jacob (peace be upon them). These all are from those people to whom We set up on the Straight Path and chose them for the guidance of human beings. We promoted their ranks, but in spite of having eminence and higher grades, they pay homage like obedient servants. And when Our Revelations are recited before them; they bow down on the earth before Us, and they have so much deep impression on their hearts that tears begin to flow helplessly from their eyes. Mankind should learn from them that how much higher rank a person has; so much he must be submissive. This is ‘Aayatul Sajdah (the Verse of Prostration). Every that person, who recites or hears this Verse; he/she should adore after reciting/hearing.

Commentary

It is commanded: You should make mention of Ishmael (peace be upon him) in the Book. He was very virtuous and true to his promise. He did never break the promise; made with any person, although he had to bear much trouble for it. Similitude of his determination and firmness is obvious that he got ready to sacrifice his life on the command of Allah Almighty and saying of his father. God Almighty saved him and sent down a ram for sacrificing at his place. He made him His Prophet and appointed Messenger also to convey the Message of His guidance unto the people. Ishmael (peace be upon him) used to enjoin upon the members of his family for offering prayer and almsgiving, so that other people should do the same work too in their imitation. He (peace be upon him) was acceptable in the sight of Allah Almighty.

After that, there is mention of Idris (peace be upon him) that he was honest and rightful servant and Prophet of Allah Almighty. He gave him very high grade in arts and sciences. Rank of Idris (peace be upon him) is very higher in this world and in the Hereafter. His time is between the times of Adam and Noah (peace be upon them).

Commentary

Mukh-lasun – (chosen), this word is the passive participle from ‘ikhlaas, which means “to clean, to choose a good thing from many others, sincerity, love, tenderness and intimacy etc”. Some more words have been derived from kha-la-sa as khaluus, which means “purity”, khaalis, which means “genuine and pure etc.”, khulaasah, which means “substance, abstract and extract”.

Najiyyun – (fellow of communion to whom any secret matter is told, confident, trusty), it is an adjective from the word najwun, which means “whispering, discussing secret matters”.

In above-mentioned verses, circumstances of Moses (peace be upon him) have been described, who was from the descendents of Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him). He (Jacob) was grandson of Abraham and son of Isaac (peace be upon them) whose mention has passed in the past.

It is commanded: Remember Moses (peace be upon him). He was Our chosen Prophet and Messenger (peace be upon him). We called him from the right slope of the Mount (Toor), brought him nigh and described him about some secret matters. And for his help, We chose Aaron, his brother as a Prophet also with Our Mercy. They both went unto Pharaoh for the purpose that he should give up insurrection and oppressing, and set the children of Israel free.

Lisaana  sidqin – (tongue of uprightness, a true renown, real fame and reputation), sidq means “honesty, integrity, fair-play”. That is to say; “We gave him tongue of the truth”. It aims “his honesty and truthfulness was remembered by every person”.

Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) left the house of his idolater father and his native land “Iraq”; and went to Syria. He (peace be upon him) said to his father at the time of departure: I withdraw from you and your idols. And I pray unto Allah Almighty. He shall hear my prayer certainly.

Allah Almighty gave him son named “Isaac” and grandson named “Jacob” (peace be upon all of them) and they both were renowned Prophets.

47.  Qaala  Salaamun  ‘alayk.  Sa-‘astagfiru  laka  Rabbii.  ‘In-naHuu  kaana  bii  Hafiyyaa.

Commentary

Maliyyan – (a long while), origin of this word is mal-wun, actual meaning of which is “to stay, to remain, to stop, to last”.

Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) saw clearly that his father; including the entire nation has been involved in depravity. He tried to cause to understand his father and proved that idol-worshipping was the worship of the Devil. He said softly and took care of it that the father should not be inflamed. But his father had become a priest of his nation (who used to officiate at shrine, fabricate idols for the people, lead them how to worship idols and live upon the offerings made to idols). Such kinds of people become free from understanding.

After hearing all sayings of Abraham (peace be upon him), at first his father “Azar” disclosed of his surprise and said: Do you reject those idols whom I adore? Then being enraged he threatened and said: Cease these matters, otherwise I shall kill you by stoning. It is better for you that before it that I punish you, you should depart from me and show me not your face for a long time.

When Abraham (peace be upon him) heard so tough and decisive answer, he was disappointed. Even then he was not ill-tempered, but said mannerly: Peace be unto you! Now it is the only way for me that I should ask my Lord to forgive your sins. He is very Kind and Merciful, and He is Ever-Gracious unto me. After it, I don’t want to see you moist in idol-worshipping.

Commentary

Keeping the betterment of the mankind in view, Abraham (peace be upon him) has been causing to understand his father: Worship of idols is actually worship of Satan. The Devil (Satan) is disobedient of The Beneficent (Rahman). Then, who has misled you to worship the idols? From it; certainly The Beneficent will be displeased with you. And if He caused to suffer you from any calamity, then you would be of nowhere and you would become companion and friend of Satan.

There is a fear in it that perhaps in future; you will not be provided any chance of repentance and you will depart from the world being entangled in such crazy and destructive matters. There, in the Hell too, you will find no comrade but Satan, because it will be the result of making the Devil own companion in the world that on the Doomsday; he will be your companion. And he will put you also in the Hell by pulling along with his other followers.

By producing own thoughts, Abraham (peace be upon him) has been trying that those evil thoughts should get out from the heart of his father; in which he has been involved since long. And in place of those thoughts; he should begin to think well; result of which is always doing good works. If it happens then he may save his father from destruction.
