Quran Chapter 23: 114 to 116a (Pt-18, Stg-4) (L-2190) درس قرآن

Purpose of creating the mankind

Chapter Mu’-minuun” – (The Believers) - 23

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

114.  He will say: Ye tarried but a little if ye only knew.

115.  Deemed ye then that We had created you for naught, and that ye would not be returned unto Us?

116a.  So Allah be Exalted, the True King!
114.  Qaala  ‘illabistum  ‘illaa  qaliilal-law  ‘annakum  kuntum  ta’-lamuun.

115.  ‘Afahasibtum  ‘anna-maa  khalaqNaakum  ‘abasanw-wa  ‘annakum  ‘ilayNaa  laa  turja-‘uun.

116a.  Fata-‘aalAllaahul-Malikul-Haqq.

Commentary

It will be commanded as a reply: There is no doubt in it that you tarried for only a little duration but considered that you had to tarry for a long time and enjoy fully. It would be better in favor of you if you had understood this matter even in the world and got ready for the life of the Hereafter quickly. But you found the life of the world very interesting. So you liked it and began to collect luxurious things as you had to live in the world for ever.

If you had known that worldly life was for only a few days or you had admitted the sayings of Our Prophets (peace be upon them and obeyed the Commandments mentioned in the Scriptures sent unto them, then you would neither have been suffering from so much repentance and grief, nor you would be burnt in the Fire of the Hell.

After that, for startling the mankind from the dream of negligence, it is commanded: O people! You should never deem that We have created you for naught and none will ask about your good or evil deeds. Listen and behold! Certainly you will have to be returned unto Us and a very oppressive result of your deeds will come out. If the scales of your good deeds will be heavy then you will dwell comfortably in the Gardens. But if the scales of your wicked deeds will be heavy then your abode will be Fire of the Hell for unknown period.

Give up thinking false that you are autocrats! Listen! Allaah Almighty does not like absurdity, wickedness and false matters. His Dignity is very Higher than thinking about falsehood. He is the True King and Greatest Judge. Full reward or punishment against everyone’s individual deeds is not given in this world. The Day of Resurrection has been fixed for this purpose.

110.  But ye chose them for a laughing-stock until they caused you to forget Remembrance of Me, while ye laughed at them.

111.  Lo! I have rewarded them this Day as they were steadfast; and in that they, even they, are the triumphant.

112.  He will say: How long tarried ye in the earth, counting by years?

113.  They will say: We tarried by a day or part of a day. Ask of those who keep count!
110.  Fattakhaz-tumuuhum  sikhriyyan  hattaaa  ‘ansawkum  ZikRii  wa  kuntum-minhum  tazhakuun.

113.  Qaaluu  labisnaa  yawman  ‘aw  ba‘-za  yawmin  fas-‘alil-‘aaaddiin.

Commentary

Sikhriyyun – (the person, at whom someone else laughs), this word is from sakhar, which means “to ridicule”.

You began to laugh at my obedient slaves and gripped up your loins to trouble them. They used to stand before Me; begging earnestly and silently. They used to call Me out and bow before Me with humility. Then they used to fall prostrate. You ridiculed them and began to laugh at their way of worship. Even that you did not have any other work save it that you should expose to laughter. You forgot My Remembrance entirely and neglected also that I can punish you. Open your eyes and see today that My those slaves at whose sayings you used to laugh in the world, have been succeeded due to My worship and obedience.

Can you tell me that how many years did you tarry in the world? They would be out of their senses due to pain and grief. And they will say: We would have tarried by a day or some hours of a day. The Angels (peace be upon them) who recorded our deeds, it would be in their memory. Ask them that how long did we live in the world!

107.  Our Lord! Oh, bring us forth from hence! If we return (to evil) then indeed we shall be wrongdoers.

108.  He saith: Begone therein, and speak not unto Me.

109.  Lo! There was a party of My slaves who said: Our Lord! We believe, therefore forgive us and have mercy on us for Thou art Best of all who show mercy.
107.  Rabbanaaa  ‘akhrijnaa  minhaa  fa-‘in  ‘udnaa  fa-‘innaa  zaalmuun.

Commentary

‘Akh-sa-‘uu – (Begone!, Get away!), it is a word of command from the word khas-‘un, which means “to go away”. The word ‘ikhsaa-‘un is used for reproving a dog.

Hellish people will grieve badly, scream and cry out in the Hell due to pain and affliction. They will request: Our Lord! We acted fruitlessly in the world and did not obey Your Command. Our Lord! Send us back once again into the world from the Hell. We assure You that we shall do good works and obey Your every Command with head and heart after returning from here. If we commit obstinacy again as we did earlier, then we shall deserve absolutely to be called oppressor, wrongdoer and tyrant etc. Then, punish us as You wish!

Allaah Almighty will answer them: Get away and live in the Hell silently. Don’t speak unto Me! You crossed the line in insurrection during your worldly life. You used to see that a party of My slaves prays in My Court and says: Our Lord! We believe. Therefore forgive our errors and sins, and have mercy on us, for You are Best of all who show mercy.

104.  The fire burneth their faces, and they are glum therein.

105.  (It will be said): Were not My Revelations recited unto you, and then ye used to deny them?

106.  They will say: Our Lord! Our evil fortune overwhelmed us, and we were erring folk.
104.  Talfahu  wujuuhahumun-Naaru  wa  hum  fiihaa  kaali-huun.

106.  Qaaluu  Rabbanaa  galabat  ‘alaynaa  shiqwatunaa  wa  kunnaa  qawman  zaaalliin.

Commentary

Talfahu – (will burn), this word is from laf-hun, which means “to burn”.

Kaali-huuna – (they are glum), it is plural of kaalihun, which has been derived from kalaha. Kuluuhun means “being disfigured of the face, expanding of lips, shrinking of the skin etc.”

Disbelievers of Allaah Almighty will enter into the Hell, where the Fire will burn them. Their bodies will swell, countenance of their faces will be changed, lips will swell and appearance will be disfigured. They will complain and cry out in the Court of Allaah Almighty due to pain and suffering. They will be asked: Were not verses of Holy Qur’an recited unto you? Verily, those used to recite before you every time, but you used to say after hearing them carelessly: It is not the Word of Allaah Almighty, but fabricated by yourselves and named falsely that it is sent by Him. We don’t need to pay attention unto it.

In those Revelations, you were frightened from the Hell and the condition of the Doom of this place was manifested entirely. Describe now! Why did you consider them a lie? They will cry out: Our Lord! Our evil fortune overwhelmed us. We had been entangled in our sensual wishes as much that we could not come out from them. We have understood now thoroughly that the path which we chose; was wrong from beginning to end and we had gone astray.

102.  Then those whose scales are heavy, they are the successful.

103.  And those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in Hell abiding for ever.
102.  Faman  saqulat  mawaa-ziinuhuu  fa-‘ulaaa-‘ika  humul-  Muflihuun.

103.  Wa  man  khaffat  mawaa-ziinuhuu  fa-‘ulaaa-‘ikallaziina  khasiruuu  ‘anfusa-hum  fii  Jahannama  khaaliduun.

Commentary

Our Lord! Forgive us! How much it has become difficult for the mankind to understand today that whatever he has been doing in this world; is being recorded continuously. After death they will be given life again, and rough accounts of their deeds will be produced before them. Then their deeds will be weighed. That person will be successful whose scales will be heavy and he will escape from all perplexities. He will gain perpetual pleasure. Grief and sadness will not touch him. He will get fruit of that which he had sown in this world.

Contrary to above, scales of whose will be light and weightless, evil will come upon him. He will come to know it clearly that he acted during worldly life totally fruitlessly, did great businesses, collected abundant wealth and property, constructed very high buildings, invented heavy machines, became very famous, the people saluted whence passed and they spoke “he is really a great and respectable person. All people consider that he is a powerful person. His talk is very weighty. He has many bungalows and motor cars et.”

On the Day of Resurrection, such kind of people will come to know that the entire worldly pomp and show was weightless. They would have to abide in the Hell compulsorily for ever.
