Lesson

Gaabiriin – (who stayed behind), this word is plural of gaabir, which has been derived from gabar. Gabar means “to pass and to stay behind). However, here it means “to stay behind”. And the aim from gaabiriin is “those people who had stayed behind after the departure of Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him), His household and His believers”.

Many people are suffering from this mania that “we know that, which other people do not know”. They consider that their knowledge is more than all others. They make guide to their own desires only and follow them by closing own eyes. They commit evil deeds totally, but take up with their mind that: those acts are able to be done, which we do. Actually the matter is it that “numerous persons agree to them without any knowledge, and due to weakness of others, the power comes into their hands. But management of the world remained something like it; that during every era, the Prophets and Messengers of Allah Almighty (peace be upon Them) have been sent unto the humankind, before the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). And after His Apostleship, no Prophet or Messenger will come for the guidance of human beings, however it has been arranged that the Revivers of the Religion will be coming continuously and they will keep reminding the Commands of God Almighty and Sayings of His last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) to the people who forgot.

In addition to the apparent eyes of a Messenger (peace be upon Him), His mystic eyes are open also and He looks everything with His inner light. He (peace be upon Him) observes clearly: Such act has been carrying the selfish people of the world unto the destruction, which they have been committing. Punishment for their fault distressing (due to their evil deeds) is going to fall to their lot within a few days.

The Messenger (peace be upon Him) is convinced that the Creator of this universe does not like their wicked acts. When their evil deeds will exceed the limits, then He will impose upon them any vigorous Power out of His unlimited Powers and Forces in any form, and that Power will ruin them.

The Messenger (peace be upon Them) caused to understand this to those disobedient people, but they do not understand and they are ruined miserably. The people of Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) were suffering from this misunderstanding too. He (peace be upon Him) explained to them several times, but they did not understand His Saying. At last that happened, which has been mentioned in this verse.

It is commanded: We rescued him {Lot (peace be upon Him)} and his household (along with His believers). They fled the town overnight and were saved, but His wife joined her nation. The Commentators (Mufassiriin) have explained that this unfortunate woman did neither believe, notwithstanding, living in the house of Lot (peace be upon Him); a Prophet and being mother of His two daughters, and nor accepted His any advice. Moreover, she remained a sympathizer and like-minded of her nation. For ostentation, she walked along with her Husband and daughters, but kept looking behind by turning her face again and again. This love of disobedient nation ruined her too along with her nation, and a stone broke her scalp and finished.
