Lesson

It is commanded that, on which day; God Almighty created the heavens and the earth, with effect from that day, He has determined a simple way of counting and computing the days, the months and the years etc. in which there is no need of any difficult calculation of the time frame, whether someone is learned or illiterate. Everyone can see the moon. Its rising, setting, increasing or decreasing is obvious upon all.

After disappearing, the moon appears in the form of a crescent. After that, it increases, then decreases and at last, it disappears. Then it appears again in the form of a crescent and so, the next lunar month begins. According to this calculation, “a year of twelve months” has been established by Allah Almighty. And upon it, seasons and times of performing the worships by the mankind, celebrating the festivals and obeying other commands of God Almighty depend.

In the Religion of Abraham, which was spread in the Arab by means of Ishmael, the son of Abraham (peace be upon Them), four months, out of twelve months were prescribed as sacred months (for peace and safety of all). During those months, the war or quarrel was no more; every person was allowed to visit every place without any kind of threat or fear and meet with everyone mutually.

It was an introduction of establishing a common rule of peaceful dwelling, because not only in the Arab, but in the entire world, the people had to do nothing but quarreling with one another. Particularly the Arabian people were very famous as quarrelsome and they used to seek very little evasions for quarreling. Due to the Religion of Abraham, they got opportunity of prevention from war and quarrels, plundering and evil deeds for four months. They used to respect these four months.

Islam also preserved this constitution, but commanded along with it too: If quarrelsome people evade and do not care about the sanctity of these months, and come out for fighting, then you should fight against them unhesitatingly. They will be held responsible of breaking the sanctity. You have been performing a human duty only. Therefore there is no blame on you.

However, you must be more careful during these four months; that any error is not committed, and try your best for your internal purity and cleanliness, particularly during these days, and keep up that sanctity; which was established in the Religion of Abraham (peace be upon Him). God Almighty is with them and helps them who avoid committing evils, act carefully and cautiously. After that it is commanded that you should wage war on the entire mischievous idolaters, in which the People of the Scripture are also included, collectively being all of you united, because they all become united also against you, and put their mutual differences aside.
