Flesh and blood of the cattle does not reach Allah

Chapter Hajj” – (The Pilgrimage) - 22

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

36b.  Thus have We made them subject unto you, that haply ye may give thanks.

37.  Their flesh and their blood reach not Allah, but the devotion from you reacheth Him. Thus have We made them subject unto that ye may magnify Allah that He hath guided you. And give good tidings (O Muhammad) to the good.

38.  Lo! Allah defendeth those who are Believers. Lo! Allah loveth not each treacherous ingrate.
36b.  Kazaalika  sakh-kharNaahaa  lakum  la-‘allakum  tashkuruun.

37.  Lany-yanaaAllaaha  luhuu-muhaa  wa  laa  dimaaa-‘uhaa  wa  laakiny-yanaaluhut-Taqwaa  minkum.  Kazaalika  sakh-kharahaa  lakum  litukabbi-rUllaaha  ‘alaa  maa  hadaakum.  Wa  bash-shiril-Muhsiniin.

38.  ‘InnAllaaha  yudaafi-‘u  ‘anillaziina  ‘aamanuu.  ‘InnAllaaha  laa  yuhibbu  kulla  khaw-waanin-kafuur.

Commentary

Luhuu-mun – (flesh), it is plural of laham.

Dimaaa-‘un – (blood), this word is from damm, which is actually plural of dam-wun.

Yudaafi-‘u – (will defend, ward off, repel, remove), origin of this word is mudaafa-‘atun, which has been derived from dafa-‘a. Mudaafa-‘atun means “Repulsion, striving to repel, self-defence, turning away”.

Khaw-waanun – (deceitful, fraudulent, traitors, faithless), this word has come out from khawan, from which the words khiyaanat and khaa-‘in have been derived. Khiyaanat means “dishonesty, embezzlement”. Khaa-‘in means “a traitor, a deceiver and an embezzler”.

It is commanded: So much big beasts have been made subject unto you. It is a Favor of Allaah Almighty over you. Therefore you should be obedient and thankful to Him. At the time of slaughtering the cattle, you should recite BisMillaahi, ‘Allaahu ‘Akbar, ‘Allaahumma laKa  wa  minKa (In the name of Allaah, Allaah is The Greatest, O Allaah! It is for You and is given by You), which aims that you should mention the name of Allaah over them. The actual object of a sacrifice is not to cause to flow the blood and eat flesh. Nothing from these things reaches Allaah Almighty. Only your sincerity and hearty passion of His obedience reaches Him.

It is good tidings for the people, who sacrifice the cattle sincerely and with true heart that they are successful. You should understand it thoroughly that Allaah Almighty will defend the Muslims from causing trouble by their enemies. He does not like any treacherous ingrate. He loves the honest and His grateful servants.
