(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Commentary

‘Asaa-tiiru – (fables), this word is plural of ‘ustuuratun, which has been derived from satara. Satar means “to draw a line”. ‘Ustuuratun means “the story which has been being told since long”. Mankind is a slave to old customs and rites and desires to behave as the ancient people had already been conducting. He repeats often the same which old people used to do. There are very less people who use their sense.

Holy Qur’an says: you should not consider that your forefathers were right in all matters. Many matters from those are wrong or those are changed in process of time from right to wrong.

It is commanded: these people who have been denying concerning the life of the mankind after death, is not any new thing. Those people who passed away before them used to say also the same. When the Prophets (peace be upon them) caused to understand them that after causing death to the human beings Allaah Almighty will give them life again, then they began to say: we are unable to understand that when a person is died, his flesh is dissolved and wasted, only skeleton of bones is remainder, which is only for some more days and it will also be finished, then how the mankind will come to life again and how will he get up. Such matters are being described to us, which are not reasonable (Let us flee to God). The same were told to our ancestors also before us. These were fabricated by some ancient people and are baseless. Now the same are being repeated again and again. If these fables were true; then ever a heap of dust would have become a living mankind and stand before us.
