Commentary
‘Awsaanun – (idols), this
word is plural of wasanun, which means “idol, statue”.
‘Ifkun – (a lie, a
falsehood) that is to say; against the reality, self-invented.
It is commanded: After the Messenger Noah (peace be upon him), We
appointed Abraham as Messenger (peace be upon him) and sent him towards his
folk. He caused to understand his people and said: Worship Allaah
Almighty and escape from ill-deeds fearing Him. If you have sense then you
should understand that it is better for you. Abraham (peace be upon him)
explained before his folk: Of which you have been worshiping day and night instead
of your Real Worshiped (Allaah Almighty), those are idols fabricated by
your own hands. If you make any form by the clay, that will remain clay only. And
if you shape an idol of stone, that will remain a stone only; nothing else.
Which faiths you have made about them, those are only your self-invented
and based on groundless matters, otherwise if you use your sense, the reality
will be disclosed before you.
The matter is this that it has been contained in your imagination that
your idols and gods provide you everything. But it is fact that those possess
nothing from which you may be given something. These are only figures of clay
and stone, which have been lying as you placed them.
