Quran Chapter 17  9 & 10 (Pt-15, Stg-4) (L-1787)

Power and greatness of The Creator

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

In the first Section of this magnificent Chapter, attention has been drawn towards the things which can cause to arrive the mankind up to his ascension of perfection. It has been commanded in it that you should think about Power and Greatness of your Creator from those things which Allah Almighty has created in the world for improvement of human beings. You should esteem of Him as it is required to regard. Behold! He chose His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) from the human beings and then made him a pattern of manners, habits, character, behavior, justice, kindness and generosity of mankind for ever.

He did not keep him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) needy of customary education, religious instructions and experience for teaching him knowledge of the reality, because for learning these entire things, a long duration is required. And when a mankind is prepared by this way, then his remaining life cannot be sufficient that he may show himself as a pattern of good disposition to the people by living among them.

Therefore, He (Allah Almighty) solved the problem of time and space which was required for education and training of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), and within only one night, He showed him wonders of the Omnipotence of Allah Almighty in the heavens, the earth and their middling atmosphere, by which his heart was satisfied completely and he believed wholeheartedly that Power of Allah Almighty is boundless, and which management of the world has He put in order; that is a surety of mankind’s welfare in all respect.

He {the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)} found: For the guidance of human beings; the Chain of Prophets (peace be upon them) has been set up by Him only, and He has made me; with His wisdom and mercy; the last ring of that Chain. So it is my first duty that I should accept Him as Incomparable from all others and Holder of the most dignified attributes. And I should admit that He is the most Eminent and Supreme to all limits, times and space. And He has shown me very great and big Signs of His Omnipotence by carrying me wonderfully from “The square Building at Makkah” (The Inviolable Place of Worship) to the Temple of Jerusalem and then to the entire Heavens. Now I am sure perfectly that He is Free from any kind of weakness or loss.

After that, it is being reminded to the entire human beings and particularly the Children of Israel: You disobeyed previous Prophets (peace be upon them) who were sent particularly for your guidance. It was the reason that you were punished severely. Particularly at two times you were nearly finished from the world because of your obstinacy. Now this golden chance is given to you that you should acquire success of the both worlds by following Our Last Messenger; Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

Commentary

It is commanded: Now Our last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has brought unto you Our Noble Qur’an. You should listen to His Sayings and should not disobey. Doing so, you will find success. Behold! Essence of all earlier Scriptures has been filled in this Qur’an. And it shows such Path which is the strongest and Straight. It says clearly that the people who will believe wholeheartedly in its verses, do good works after believing in Allah Almighty, His last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and His last Scripture (Holy Qur’an), good news is for them that those people will dwell peacefully in both worlds (this world and the Hereafter). But the people who will consider that only this world is everything, and they will not believe in the Day of Resurrection, for such people there is nothing save distress, pain, affliction and suffering. They will live here in worst condition and after death they will be suffering from very painful doom.

This Message of Holy Qur’an, which has been conveyed by the verse under reference, is for the entire human beings. The Jews particularly should take lesson from it and if they desire to come out from the circle of punishments, then they should give proper attention to this Command of Holy Qur’an.

The King named Titus Roomy

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

7b.  So when the time for the second (of the judgments) came (We roused against you others of Our slaves) to ravage you, and to enter the Temple even as they entered it the first time, and to lay waste all that they conquered with an utter wasting.

8.  It may be that your Lord will have mercy on you, and if ye repeat (the crime) We shall repeat (the punishment), and We have appointed Hell a dungeon for the disbelievers.
7b.  Fa-‘izaa  jaaa-‘a  wa’-dul-‘Aakhirati  li-yasuuu-‘uu  wujuuhakum  wa  li-yadkhulul-Masjida  kamaa  dakhaluuhu  ‘awwala  marratinw-wa  li-yutab-biruu  maa  ‘alaw  tatbiiraa.

8.  ‘Asaa  Rabbukum  ‘anyyar-hamakum.  Wa  ‘in  ‘uttum  ‘udNaa.  Wa  ja-‘alNaa  Jahannama  lil-kaafiriina  hasiiraa.

Commentary

Yutab-biruu – (they ruin, lay waste), origin of this word is tatbiir, which has been derived from tabara. Tabara means “to cut off, to amputate, to hew, to strike off”. There is exaggeration in the word tatbiir, that is to say, it aims “to waste utterly, to destroy completely”.

Maa  ‘alaw – (as far as or as long as possible), the word maa is used for “the time or duration”.

Hasiiraa – (dungeon, a jail, prison), it is an adjective from the word hasar, which means “to enclose, to blockade, to detain”. Hasiir is the thing which blocks. So it aims dungeon.

Second time, Allah Almighty appointed the King named Titus Roomy to conquer the Children of Israel. He hit a ruin by killing them. His soldiers entered the Temple of Jerusalem and as earlier, they destroyed it. As far as it was possible, they did not leave; ruining the Children of Israel; unfinished.

It is commanded: Once again, by being loyal to Islam, one more opportunity of rising up has been provided to you. If even then, you gripped up your loins on wickedness, then again, We should disgrace you in the world. And We have appointed the Hell a dungeon for the disobedient and disbelievers. So We shall prison you also into it.

The time for the first of the judgment was Before Christ. After that they killed Zachariah and John (peace be upon them), disobeyed Jesus (peace be upon him) and they were desirous of killing Him also, but Allah Almighty saved Him (peace be upon him). Afterwards, they were punished which has been mentioned in this verse.

Quran Chapter 17  6 & 7a (Pt-15, Stg-4) (L-1784)

Aid from Allah with wealth and children

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

6.  Then We gave you once again your turn against them, and We aided you with wealth and children and made you more in soldiery.

7a.  (Saying): If ye do good, ye do good for your own souls, and if ye do evil, it is for them (in like manner).
6.  Summa  radadNaa  lakumul-karrata  ‘alayhim  wa  ‘amdad-Naa-kum  bi-‘amwaalinw-wa  ba-niina  wa  ja-‘alNaakum  ‘aksara  nafiiraa.

7a.  ‘In  ‘ahsantum  ‘ahsantum  li-‘anfu-sikum;  wa  ‘in  ‘asa’-tum  fa-lahaa.

Commentary

Karrata – {(your) turn}, origin of this word is karrun and karratun, which means “to return and attack again”. It aims “We caused to take you a favorable turn”.

Nafiiraa – (the people, an Army), origin of this word is nafara. Nafara means “hard labor of toil which is for helping others”. Nafiirun means “group of supporters who are ready to help”.

The Kings of Babylon attacked on the Temple of Jerusalem even 587 years Before Christ. Ultimately, when the Children of Israel were entangled in calamities, then their minds became soft and they turned towards Allah Almighty. He arranged to bring them back and peopled them in their native land again. He aided them with abundant wealth, power and gave them maximum male children. So when they had collected sufficient wealth, their strength of manpower increased and they had established a strong Army, then they resisted against their enemies with success and began to exercise their authority as they used to rule earlier. Then the jollity was all around.

Allah Almighty commanded: That misfortune was retribution of your wicked deeds. And now which your condition has been good, it is retaliation of your good deeds. Understand it well that if you will do good, you will do good for your own souls. But if you will do evil, you will do it for yourselves. After that, some days passed in good condition.

Then Satan deceived them again and they began to do evil wildly again.

Soldiers of Babylon

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

5.  So when the time for the first of the two came, We roused against you slaves of Ours of great might who ravaged (your) country. And it was a promise to be accomplished.
5.  Fa-‘izaa  jaaa-‘a  wa’-du  ‘uu-laahumaa  ba-‘asNaa  ‘alaykum  ‘ibaadal-laNaaa  ‘ulii-  ba’-sin  shadiidin  fajaasuu  khilaalad-diyaar.  Wa  kaana  wa’-dam-maf-‘uulaa.

Commentary

Fajaasuu – (they ravaged), it is a past tense from ja-wa-sa. Jawasa means “to spread all around, to rush headlong into every corner”.

Desire of the world was overcoming upon the Children of Israel as much and they were eager of their free-will to celebrate merriment to this extent that they used to care not the Commandments of God Almighty. If their Prophets (peace be upon them) used to terrify them from the wrath of Allah Almighty, they used to reprove Them and sometimes they used to kill Them (peace be upon them). By taking a false verdict from their so-call scholars, who were seekers of the world, they used to do boldly whatsoever they wish to do. These scholars too used to change the meanings of the verses according to their wishes due to greed of money.

It was commanded to them in accord with the previous verse: Ye verily will work corruption in the earth twice, and ye will become great tyrants as much that it will become necessary to punish you in the world.

It has been mentioned in this verse: At last the Children of Israel worked corruption in the earth first time. Prophet ‘Asha’-yaa’ (‘Al-Yasa’ (peace be upon him) stood to warn them and the explanations of so-called scholars were rejected, then the Children of Israel began to oppose openly and they put the Prophet (peace be upon him) to death.

It is commanded: We roused the kings of Babylon against you and the soldiers of Bukht Nasr rushed headlong into your houses, who slaughtered the members of your families cruelly and spoiled you. It was Our Promise which was accomplished, that is to say, you were punished very severely due to your insurrection.

Quran Chapter 17  4 (Pt-15, Stg-4) (L-1782)

The great tyrants

Surah Baniii ‘Israaa-‘iil (The Children of Israel) - 17

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

4.  And We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture: Ye verily will work corruption in the earth twice, and ye will become great tyrants.
4.  Wa  qazayNaaa  ‘ilaa  Baniii  ‘Israaa-‘iila  fil-kitaabi  la-tufsi-dunna  fil-‘arzi  marratayni  wa  lata’-lunna  ‘uluwwan-  kabiiraa.

Commentary

Lata’-lunna – (you will be haughty and will oppress), actually this word is ta’-lawunna. ‘Uluwwan is its origin, which means “to become high”. Here it aims “tyranny and arrogance”.

It is commanded: We had caused to understand them in the Scripture and declared Our decision that if they did not refrain from their wicked deeds, and after knowing the Omnipotence of Allah Almighty; they did not become His sincere obedient, then they would be fallen into bad habits of self-conceit and haughtiness, and they would begin oppressing other people severely. And as a punishment; misfortunes would fall upon them. If once someone is habituated of evil deeds, then it becomes very difficult to give up them. Your limitless evil deeds will entrap you in such calamity that you will suffer change from past evils and begin to go on the straight path for some time. But after a short duration, you will incline unto wickedness again, as any dead smoker of cigarettes leaves smoking, but due to want of power, he desires always to smoke. Eighty per cent of such people begin to smoke again. Like this, you also will work corruption again violently, and you will be punished severely again.

It is being warned to the Muslims of Arab and the entire human beings: If you also did not know your Creator (Allah Almighty), His last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and His last Scripture (Holy Qur’an), then you will never be able to leave your bad habits, and you also will be entangled in various kinds of misfortunes in the world and on the Day of Resurrection, you too will be afflicted by the Doom.

Our Lord! Forgive all of us and show us the Straight Path.

2.  We gave unto Moses the Scripture, and We appointed it a guidance for the Children of Israel, saying: Choose no guardian beside Me.

3.  O you the offspring of those whom We carried (in the ship) along with Noah. Lo! He was a grateful slave.
2.  Wa  ‘aatayNaa  Muusal-Kitaaba  wa  ja-‘alNaahu  Hudalli-Baniii  ‘Israaa-‘iila  ‘allaa  tattakhizuu  min-duuNii  Wakiilaa.

3.  Zurriyyata  man  hamalNaa  ma-‘a  Nuuh.  ‘Innahuu  kaana  ‘abdan- shakuuraa.

Commentary

It is commanded in this verse: Behold! In the same connection, We appointed Moses (peace be upon him) as Our Messenger and sent before you {Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)}. And We gave him the Scripture named Torah, so that he should guide the Children of Israel unto the Path of knowing Allah Almighty and instruct them to get guidance from this Scripture. When they will understand the Power of God Almighty thoroughly, then they will see clearly that “no one is able save Allah Almighty; in whom one should trust”. This Scripture will inform them that Allah Almighty has commanded: Choose no guardian beside Me. You also are the children of those people; to whom We instructed that they should ride on the ship of Noah (peace be upon him) to save themselves from the storm. Thus they were saved from drowning in the storm.

Reflect in this matter that the people, who were drowned in the storm, were those who disbelieved in Allah Almighty and chose others as their guardians and supporters. They did not care the Commands of Allah Almighty because they did not understand His Omnipotence. They used to joke when Noah (peace be upon him) was fabricating the ship that he would pilot the ship on dry land.

They were unaware that by the Command of Allah Almighty, the same dry land would become ocean and there would be no individual having power to save himself from drowning without riding on the ship. This unusual storm was sent by Allah Almighty for the help of Noah (peace be upon him), who was His sincere servant, thankful for His Blessings and Believer of His Favors.
