Commentary
Haaqa – (it surrounded),
this is past tense from the word “hawqun”, which means “to ensnare, to revert,
to fall back”. It aims, “they used to mock the doom of Allaah Almighty
and His Revelations, so they were surrounded due to its punishment”.
It is commanded: When that Hour
would have to come, will come all of a sudden. And when it will come; then you
will be stupefied due to fear of terror. You will not have any individual or
collective power that you may stop or repel it. And nor will you be given any
respite that you may fight against it after getting any support. Alas is if
this world and its cheerfulness makes you careless from its side. But often it
happened that the people have mocked the Messengers (peace be upon them) during
past times and by considering their sayings cursory and valueless; they evaded,
whereas those were very weighty.
They (peace be upon them) had
disclosed the secret of the life, but the people of the world did not try to
understand them and considered that their sayings were useless. At last, the
sayings of the Messengers (peace be upon them) were true and the disobedient
people had to undergo punishment due to their arrogance and they were ruined.
