58a. O ye who believe!
Let your slaves, and those of you who have not come to puberty, ask leave of
you at three times (before they come into your presence). Before the prayer of
dawn, and when ye lay aside your raiment for the heat of noon, and after the
prayer of night. Three times of privacy for you.

Commentary
Huluma – (understanding, wisdom), here it aims: discernment of desire
relating to sex, which appears after puberty).
Marraat – (again and again, repeatedly), this word
is plural of marrah, which means “one time”. Here it aims “time and an
occasion”. It means “there are three such times in which a man desires privacy”.
A man needs a separate house and abode for living. Generally,
along with him, his wife, children, attendants and servants; in which slaves
and bond-maids were included during ancient times; live altogether. In these
verses, the way of living in a house is being described to its residents that it
is difficult for the common people to live every time in a house mutually, but
there are three such times during which; privacy is required. And a man does
not like coming of any other person near him during those times – (a) before
the prayer of dawn, (b) when one lays aside his raiment for the heat of noon,
(c) and after the prayer of night. In these times, if bond-women, servants and
slaves etc. wish to enter, they should at first take permission of the master
of the house. Those children who have grown up but still they have not reached
the age of puberty so far, they also are not allowed to come in fearless. If they
wish to enter, they should ask leave before coming in the room.
