63b.  Allah knoweth those of you who steal away, hiding themselves. And let those who conspire to evade orders beware lest trial or painful punishment befall them.
63b.  Qad  ya’-lamUllaahul-laziina  yatasal-laluuna  minkum  liwaazaa.  Falyah-zarillaziina  yukhaali-fuuna  ‘an  ‘amriHii  ‘an  tusiibahum  fitnatun  ‘aw  yusiibahum  ‘azaabun  ‘aliim.

Commentary

yatasal-laluuna – (they steal away), origin of this word is sallun, which means “to pull out immediately”. Tasallalun is its intransitive, which means “to slip away quietly”.

Liwaazaa – (hiding behind one another), it has been derived from the word lawzun, which means “to conceal, taking shelter”. Liwaazun means “to hide behind one another.”

There were such people in Madinah too who were thought-fellows of the Infidels of Makkah. They used to consider that Islam was a game for a few days only. It would not be able to change the way of life which has been established with effect from ancient times and it would become extinct automatically within some days.

Apparently, these people used to follow the Muslims thoughtlessly, but their hearts did never accept Islam. They used to come for offering prayer unwillingly after hearing ‘Azaan (a call for prayer), attend the assemblies of Muslims and hear the Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), but in a while; they used to become tiresome, and when any Muslim used to go out; they used to slip away quietly also, hiding themselves behind the Muslim, because such Sayings were not liked by them. Such kind of conduct has been satirized in this verse.

It is commanded: Allaah Almighty is Aware of those people who steal away by the support of others, as soon as they find any chance. There is rebellion in their hearts. They do not care the Will of the Messenger of Allaah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and do as they wish. They should fear that they can be punished due to this repugnance. And any severe disaster can come upon them in the world. Moreover, they can be entangled in a painful Doom on the Day of Resurrection.
