Prophet Jonah (peace be upon him)

Surah YUUNUS - 10 (JONAH)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Lesson

Jonah (peace be upon Him) is a name of a selected servant of God Almighty. The name of this Chapter is Surah Yuunus because in it, there is mention of Prophet Jonah (peace be upon Him) and his nation. It is the particularity of this nation that its people were frightened; as soon as they saw the symptoms of the wrath of God Almighty, believed in Him immediately and all of them supplicated by shedding tears for forgiveness, and prayed for getting out God’s wrath of the way. So the wrath was withdrawn from them. Any other nation did not do like this prior to them.

This Chapter was revealed in Makkah probably four years before Hijrah (the flight of the Messenger – grace, blessings and peace be on Him; from Makkah to Madinah on the 16th July, 622 AD). So, like other Chapters; revealed in Makkah, in it also, the human beings have been commanded that they should know the Creator and Organizer of all those things; which exist in this universe, by observing the functions of every visible thing that there is only One (God, The Most High), Who created this entire universe and only He is Who looks after it. He is Who provides all necessary things which are necessary for the life of every living being. The mankind himself has also been created by Him. He granted more wisdom to the human being so that he may comprehend thoroughly to his Creator and Lord after studying the universe and nature, and then spend his entire virtues and powers to please Him.

For guidance of the human beings, Allah Almighty has sent some people by appointing them His Messengers (peace be on them) from time to time, so that they awake the people from the dream of carelessness and instruct them: You have to be produced before your Lord and Master after death and He will take an account of your entire deeds.

In the same Chapter, next to it, their attention has been drawn by explaining the condition and behavior of the folks of Noah, Moses, Aaron (Brother of Moses) and Jonah with the Prophets (peace be upon them) that, you would have to learn also from the previous nations.

By means of extreme obvious and effective commandments, this Surah describes the way of living as an obedient of Divine Law and removing the insurrection of human beings. When you will meditate into them, you will understand the way of passing over the life in this world, and on the other hand, it becomes clear on him that he is responsible of establishing a system, peace and safety in this world. Then it shows that without obedience of Allah Almighty, any human being can neither get freedom from the calamities and nor can fulfill his responsibilities.
