Tidings of the birth of a female

Suratun-Nahl - (The Bee) - 16

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

58.  When if one of them receiveth tidings of the birth of a female, his face remaineth darkened, and he is wroth inwardly.

59.  He hideth himself from the folk because of the evil of that whereof he hath had tidings, (asking himself): Shall he keep her in contempt, or bury her beneath the dust. Verily evil is their judgment.
58.  Wa  ‘izaa bush-shira  ‘ahadu-hum  bil-‘unsaa  zalla  wajhu-huu  muswaddanw-wa  huwa  kaziim.

59.  Yata-waaraa  minal-qawmi  min-  suu-‘i  maa  bush-shira  bih.  ‘Ayumsi-kuhuu  ‘alaa  huunin  ‘am  yadus-suhuu  fit-turaab.  ‘Alaa  saaa-‘a  maa  yahkumuun.

Commentary

Muswaddan – (black, dark), it is a Subject from the word ‘iswaadun. Its origin is sawada. Sawaadun means – darkness, blackness. ‘Iswaadun means “to be dark or black”.

Kaziimun – (inward wroth, hiding own woe), it is an adjective; origin of which is kazama (swallowed up anger).

Yata-waaraa – (hiding oneself), this word is from warii, which means “concealment, covering, hiding”. Tawaaraa means “to hide).

It is commanded that when someone comes and gives tidings to a person that “a daughter has been born from your wife”, then he grieves as much that it seems that a mountain of sorrow has fallen on his head. His face becomes dark due to inward wroth. And he begins to think: Should I let her live or bear reproach of people and disgrace for whole life? Or should I bury her in the earth so that I may not see the face of disgrace in my life?

He has such condition in the matter of a daughter, whereas for Allah Almighty; he proposes daughters. Behold! It is their deceitful conduct.
