Commentary
Maraha – (exultant, triumphing, rejoicing
greatly).
Sayyi-‘u – (the evil, reproachable),
this word has come out from suu-‘un, which means “to be sinner,
badness”.
It has been advised to the human being in this
verse that he should live civilized and modestly. It is better for the mankind
that he should adopt moderation in his conduct. Arrogance and haughtiness do
not suit him. Some people exult as much because of their wealth, property and
power that they do no like to talk with other people simply and straightly. It
appears from their gait and discourse that they consider themselves superior to
others and that; other all people are inferior to them.
It is commanded: Why do you walk in the earth
exultant and keep your every step forward as a proud? Will you rend the earth
by walking on it arrogantly? Why do you pull yourself as much and why don’t you
let your sight down? Will you become high even from the hills? You are not able
to do all these things. Therefore you should see yourself and live in your
limits. Allah Almighty has exalted one from the other. Why are you in rapture?
You should lower your eyes; walk slowly with depth of thought and steadiness.
Then it is commanded: The evil of all that is hateful
in the Sight of your Lord.
