Quran Chapter 20  121 & 122 (Pt-16, Stg-4) (L-2016)

Disobedience of the clear Command of Allah

Chapter TAA-HAASurah – 20)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

121.  Then they twain ate thereof, so that their shame became apparent unto them, and they began to hide by heaping on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, so went astray.

122.  Then his Lord chose him, and relented toward him, and guided him.
121.  Fa-‘akalaa  minhaa  fabadat  lahumaa  saw-‘aatuhumaa  wa  tafiqaa  yakh-sifaani  ‘alayhi-maa  minw-waraqil-Jannah.  Wa  ‘asaaa  ‘Aadamu  Rabbahuu  fa-gawaa.

122.  Summaj-tabaahu  Rabbu-huu  fataaba  ‘alayhi  wa  hadaa.

Commentary

Yakh-sifaani – {(they) began to adjoin with one another}, this word has come out from khasafa, which means “to adjoin separate things with one another by sewing or joining firmly”.

‘Asaaa – (disobeyed), it is past tense and its origin is the word “’isyaan”, which was discussed in the past. It aims “he disobeyed the Command of Allah Almighty”.

Gawaa – (went astray), this word is of past tense also from the word gayyun, which means “going astray by leaving the right path”.

Satan (Iblis) was strong of his determination. Adam (peace be upon him) was mistaken because Satan took an oath before Adam (peace be upon him) that “I am your well-wisher”. Adam (peace be upon him) was unaware that deception can be even in the oath. He (peace be upon him) was deceived, so husband and wife (they both) ate the fruit of that tree from which they were prevented. As soon as they ate the fruit, their dress of the Garden was dropped down. When they both were abashed due to becoming naked before each other; they began to hide their bodies, with the leaves of the trees of the Garden.

It is commanded: Adam (peace be upon him) did not disobey intentionally, but was taken in the false oath of Satan and did against the clear Command of Allaah Almighty. It was the result that he (peace be upon him) went astray, but this disobedience was not intentional. Allaah Almighty had pity upon him, taught him the method of repentance, took him under the Shadow of His Kindness and described him about that what he would have to do in future.

Safety from the heat of the sun

Chapter TAA-HAASurah – 20)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

118.  It is (vouchsafed) unto thee that thou hungerest not therein nor art naked –

119.  And that thou thirstest not therein nor art exposed to the sun’s heat.

120.  Then the Devil whispered to him, saying: O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and kingdom which decays not?
118.  ‘Inna  laka  ‘allaa  tajuu-‘a  fiihaa  wa  laa  ta’-raa.

119.  Wa  ‘annaka  laa  tazma-‘u  fiihaa  wa  laa  tazhaa.

120.  Fa-waswasa  ‘ilayhish-Shaytaanu  qaala  Yaaa-‘Aadamu  hal  ‘adulluka  ‘alaa  Shajaratil  khuldi  wa  mulkil-laa  yablaa.

Commentary

Laa  tazhaa – (you are exposed not to the sun’s heat).

Laa  yablaa – (it decays not), origin of this word is “balaya, which means “to be weak being old”.

Mulka – (kingdom, empire), its meanings are “power and authority” too, and it is used for “a big portion of population” also.

It was commanded: You should live in the Garden. You will be vouchsafed here complete rest and peace. You will feel no trouble in getting food and clothes, and you will remain saved from the heat of the sun. You will have to face no difficulty of preparing meal for removing your hunger, clothe for saving your body, and a dwelling for being saved from seasonal troubles.

Then it is commanded: Satan could not bear living of Adam and Eve (peace be upon them) in such rest and peace. He whispered to them (peace be upon them) and said: This state is not steady. I can tell you about a tree if you desire; by eating fruit of which; you will get perpetual life and dwell always healthy and strong; and will rule for ever, and your strength will never be transitory.

Quran Chapter 20  116 & 117 (Pt-16, Stg-4) (L-2014)

Satan refused from falling prostrate

Chapter TAA-HAASurah – 20)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

116.  And when We said unto the angels: Fall prostrate before Adam, they fell prostrate (all) save Ibliis. He refused.

117.  Therefore We said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.
116.  Wa  ‘iz  qulNaa  lil-malaaa-‘ikatis-juduu  li-‘Aadama  fasa-jaduuu  ‘illaaa  ‘Ibliis.  ‘Abaa.

117.  FaqulNaa  Yaaa-‘Aadamu  ‘inna  haazaa  ‘aduwwul-laka  wa  li-zawjika  falaa  yukhri-jannakumaa  minal-Jannati  fa-tashqaa.

Commentary

Tashqaa – (you come to toil, you are entangled in calamity/ill-fortune), origin of this word is shiqaaa-‘un, which means “to be entangled in severe difficulty and inconvenience, to fail in getting the desired thing, to be surrounded in intricacies”. The word “shaqaawat” has also come out from the same origin, which means “hard heartedness, misery, disgrace, poverty etc.”

Allaah Almighty, Who is Creator of the universe, brought Adam (peace be upon him) into being and honored him by giving best face and form, sense and strength. Then with this thought that he should not be confused due to loneliness, He created Eve as his wife and life partner. The Angels (peace be upon them) wondered that “what will be function of this independent creature, which has sense and strength? Liberty along with power is cause of all troubles and quarrels”.

Allaah Almighty commanded: Only I know this creature. It is better for you that you should fall prostrate before him. The Angels (peace be upon them) did not refuse. They fell prostrate immediately, but Iblis (Satan) refused from falling prostrate before Adam (peace be upon him) and said: How can it be that I fall prostrate before this statue; made of mud?

At that time, it was commanded: O Adam (peace be upon him)! It is Our decision for you that you along with your wife should be kept in the Garden (Paradise). Therefore you both will live there. But remember it that Iblis (Satan), who did not fall prostrate before you, is your enemy. He will drive you and your wife out of the Garden. If you are dismissed from the Garden then you would have to pass your life with some restrictions. Your physical and spiritual powers will fight against each other and you will be entangled in troubles.

115.  And verily We made a covenant of old with Adam, but he forgot, and We found no constancy in him.
114b.  Wa  laa  ta’-jal  bil-Qur-‘aani  min  qabli  ‘any-yuqzaaa  ‘ilayka  Wahyuh.  Wa  qur-Rabbi  zidnii  ‘ilmaa.

115.  Wa  laqad  ‘ahidNaaa  ‘ilaaa  ‘Aadama  min-  qablu  fanasiya  wa  lam Najid  lahuu  ‘azmaa.
(Section 6)

Commentary

It was described in the previous verse that “We revealed Qur’an for the people in Arabic language; decorated with such kind of advisable commands; as you have listened, so that they should do good works and refrain from wicked deeds, and this Qur’an may remind them the forgotten covenant which they made with Allaah Almighty in the World of Spirits (that we shall believe during the worldly life that You are our Lord).

It has been commanded in this verse: O Our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)! While We have to convey this Qur’an unto the entire human beings by means of you; then We shall cause it to remember you thoroughly. When the Angel (Gabriel – peace be upon him) brings down unto you the Revelation of any Verse or Chapter (Surah); you should hear it carefully up to the time that its Revelation has been perfected unto you. You should not try to hasten in reciting along with Gabriel (peace be upon him) but hear only. It is Our Work to remind you.

Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) used to try to recite along with Gabriel (peace be upon him) lest it is forgotten. Therefore, it has been instructed that there is no need to recite in haste along with him. It will be impressed on your mind as soon as you will hear, because it is required to be delivered unto all next generations, so it cannot be destroyed. You should pray: My Lord! Increase me in knowledge of Qur’an and its understanding!

Then it is commanded: Cause to hear the story of Adam (peace be upon him) to these people, so that they may know that what is the result of forgetting the covenant after making it? It is commanded: We gave an order to Adam (peace be upon him) and he forgot it. We did not find constancy of mind in him.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

113.  And thus We have revealed it as a Lecture (Qur’aan) in Arabic; and have displayed therein certain threats, that peradventure they may keep from evil or that it may cause them to take heed.

14a.  Then Exalted be Allah, the True King!

14a.  Fata-‘AalAllaahul-  Malikul-  Haqq.

Commentary

Narrative concerning Moses and Aaron (peace be upon them) has been caused to hear that “We” bestowed to them Prophet-hood and sent them with a Message unto obstinate Pharaoh of Egypt; that he should refrain from his rebellion, should not oppress the feeble and should not use force against them.

Then it was commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon him)! We inform you about the consequences of mankind’s evil deeds by describing the circumstances of ancient people like this. And a Guide Book has been given to you for the purpose that you should recite it before the people, so that they should give up doing wrong, otherwise their End will be worse. Say to them: It is sure that the Day of Resurrection will come. Allaah Almighty will show His Dignity and Magnificence by collecting the entire mankind on that Day. Necks of all refractory people will bend before Him.

It is commanded now: We revealed this Book of Guidance in the world on the same style; by making it as a Lecture (Qur’aan) in Arabic language. And We frightened the mankind in it from the consequences of their wicked deeds; by changing its verses in various ways. The object from it is that they should recite it and pass their lives carefully by obeying the Commandments mentioned in it. They should do only those works which are permitted in it and refrain from that which is forbidden. It is called “Abstinence” (Taqwaa). If the Piety is not acquired, even then at least, a thought will be produced in the heart by reciting it and it may be hoped that one can be mended any time in future.

Remember it that only Allah Almighty is Who revealed this Qur’aan, Who is Lord and King of the entire world. In fact, greatness and magnificence is for Him only.

Chapter TAA-HAASurah – 20)

(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

111.  And faces will humble themselves before the Living, the Eternal. And he who beareth (a burden of) wrongdoing will fail miserably (on that Day).

112.  And he who hath done some good works, being a Believer, he feareth not injustice nor begrudging (of his wage).
111.  Wa  ‘anatil-wujuuhu  lil-Hayyil-Qayyuum.  Wa  qad  khaaba  man  hamala  zulmaa.

112.  Wa  many-ya’-mal  minas-Saalihaati  wa  huwa  Mu’-minun  falaa  yakhaafu  zulmanw-wa  laa  hazmaa.

Commentary

‘Anati  – (will humble oneself, will make oneself submissive), origin of this word is ‘an-wun, which means “to bow before the powerful with humility”.

Zulmun – (to use force against any person, to violate the rights of an individual)

Hazmun – (to hurt someone), actual meanings of this word are “to break, to divide into pieces”.

Khaaba – (failed miserably), it is past tense from the word khaybah, which means “failure, bad luck”.

In the world, the mankind does not see beyond the things around him. He considers that “only perceptible things are everything”. There are only a few people, who understand in the world that every thing has been bowing before Allaah Almighty and is downcast before His Commandment. But on the Day of Resurrection, every individual will see the Greatness of Allaah Almighty clearly. And the heads of great rebellious people will also be bowing before Him. Airs of none will be of use There. None will be able to boast before Him. There, He Himself will announce about the last judgment of His slaves directly. The person, who would have done ill-mannered and improper acts in the world, will bear the burden of those entire wrong deeds. The worst condition will be of that person; who would have done wrong upon own soul by denying Allaah Almighty. However the person who would have believed in Allaah Almighty after knowing Him and done good works during the worldly life, very good reward of good deeds and belief will be given to that person. Neither his any good work will be destroyed and nor its reward will be lessened.

Commentary

Hamsun – (a faint murmur, weak sound like voice of the feet when walking), at the time of talking, shaking only lips and coming of the sound as murmuring. Voice of feet when those are stepped softly and hastily as the camel walks, such kind of voice is called “whispering”. On the Day of Resurrection, the entire dead mankind will get up by the Sound of the Trumpet and that Sound will bring them in running condition unto only one direction.

It is commanded: On that Day, the voice will not come out from the mouth of any person due to fear of the Beneficent. Only their lips will shake or light sound of their feet will come out. Except it, no sound will be heard. Intercession of any individual, for releasing the people from the awe and fear of doom, will not be useful there. However, to whom Allaah Almighty will give permission and will like to hear his saying, only that person will be able to speak and intercede.

Allaah Almighty knows the entire circumstances of every individual, whereas the people do not have complete knowledge even about themselves. They do not know that who is able to intercede. Only Allaah Almighty is Who will choose a Person by the help of His Knowledge and give him permission that he should intercede for the people at the time of such calamity. And that Person will be Muhammad, the Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).
