  أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَلَّايَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَوْلًا وَلَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا 89

Commentary

‘Allaa – (that it does not), actually this word has been made from two words: “‘an and laa”. ‘An is abbreviation of “‘anna”. Its Noun is omitted and that pronoun is “huu”, which is attentive unto “a calf”.

In the absence of Moses (peace be upon him), the Children of Israel began to adore the idol of a calf. When he (peace be upon him) returned and reproved them on their foolishness, then they made excuse that “Samirii fabricated a calf of the gold by melting those ornaments which we had thrown away (considering that those were useless for us), and a sound like the voice of a cow began to come out from it. He said to us! Worship it. So we began to worship the calf.

It has been commanded in this verse: Ask from them that whether the calf gives you answer of any question? Or can it hurt or profit you? O blinds of sense! If this very little matter did not strike you at your own, then at least, you had to accept that which Aaron (peace be upon him) was causing to understand you.

Aaron (peace be upon him) reminded them many times that being Mad with love of an idol of the calf was an act of going astray. Your Lord is the Beneficent and I also am His Prophet as Moses (peace be upon him). Therefore, you should obey my order and do whatever I say to you! Have you lost your senses entirely? If you are unable to understand yourselves then you should understand from the sayings of a Prophet.
