Commentary
Muqarra-niina – (chained together), this
word is plural of muqarran, which is passive or past participle from taqriin.
Its origin is qarnun, which means “to join, to unite, to chain together”.
There is exaggeration in the word Taqriin, that is to say “to fasten
harshly, to chain many people together or to bind hands and feet of a person
with his neck”.
Subuu-ran – (death), origin of this word is sabar.
Subuur means “destruction, ruin, death, slaughter, depravity”, that is
to say, they will pray for death due to confusion of miseries.
It was found from the previous verses that the Hell is a trench
of the Fire. When the disbelievers will see and hear the crackling and the roar
of the Hell, they will lose their senses. On the other side, when the Hell will
see them, its crackling and roar will increase more than earlier.
In this verse, it is commanded: When those disbelievers will be
chained together and flung into a narrow place of the Hell, then there will be
no limit of their confusion, restlessness and pain. They will weep bitterly,
cry and pray for death, so that they may get freedom from misery and pain. But none
will die in the next life. It is the worst and most formidable picture of the
Hell, after thinking about which, every mankind can lose his sense. But the
mankind is ignorant who considers that it is only an imaginary picture, in fact
nothing will happen. He does not wish to leave luxurious life of this world by
involving in such fanciful matters.
Woe is on his sense. If it is necessary to travel on a dark and
unknown path, and any experienced person says that “there is danger in this
path. You should arrange for precautionary measures before going forth”. Then will
any wise person ignore his advice and will he not get ready to save himself
from the danger?
