Commentary

It was explained in the previous verses that the people who denied Allaah Almighty and their false self-fabricated gods will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection. And it will be asked from their gods: Did you deceive them that they should adore you or did they go astray themselves?

They will reply: How could we say to them that they should worship us while we ourselves were destitute of help? They were useless for us so we were not necessitous to make them our admirers.

Then it will be asked from the Disbelievers: Your gods have withdrawn by saying that you are liars. What do you say now? How will you get now your false claims verified? Produce your supporter now if you have any other. Otherwise it is proved that you are guilty. Neither you can avert the doom from yourselves, nor you can deny from your claim and nor you can obtain help from anywhere.

After that it will be commanded: Hear the decision against you while you have been settled as criminals and the blame of rebellion has been established upon you. You will be punished according to your insurrection. Whosoever from you will be how much refractory, so severely will he be punished.

You did never understand during your worldly life that you were making gods to others by denying Allaah Almighty, which was violence entirely. You did not have any right to do so; that you choose your guardian from the creatures of Allaah Almighty by leaving Him Who is your Creator, Master and Lord. To whom you chose as your gods, they did not have any power or authority, but in some forms those were below your status, because those were nothing save lifeless idols.
