7. Verily in Joseph and
his brethren are signs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) for the inquirers.
8. When they said:
Verily Joseph and his brother are dearer to our father than we are, many
though we be. Lo! Our father is in plain aberration.

Commentary
‘Usbatun – (a crowd,
a group), this word is from ‘asbun, which means “to fasten after
collection together”. ‘Usbah is a group of minimum three persons, there
is no restriction on more than three people”. Besides Joseph (peace be upon
him) and Binyamin, they were ten brothers (sons of Jacob - peace be upon
him) and there was very friendship among them (father and Joseph).
It is commanded: In
this story, there are many signs which can teach much to the inquirers of the
circumstances. The people of Makkah ask about their circumstances, but
they should bring out the result from this story that some ignorant people, who
do not think about the end being in the ardor of passions, and they torment
their own close relatives, in future they will be sorrowful for their wicked
deeds.
Even then, they
(the people of Mecca ) heard the entire story, but did not refrain from molesting the
Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).
Therefore, like Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him), He (Muhammad - grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) obtained the object desired at the end
and Makkan people of Qureysh repented as brothers of Joseph
(peace be upon him), and then they were necessitous of His (Muhammad’s - grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon him) pity and graciousness.
The elder ten sons
of Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) thought about Joseph (peace be upon him)
and His brother Binyamin that, “why they both are dearer to our father
more than us whereas we may be more useful at any time of difficulty? It seems
that certainly our father is going to err in this regard, which is very clear”.
Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) had special love with Joseph because his
mother had died during His (peace be upon him) child-hood.
