Commentary

It has been described earlier that the actual thing is “Deeds of the Mankind”, upon which his good or bad consequence depends. And in accordance with this established order, the mankind has been informed about those works which he should do in the world at their proper times.

Now; after that, it is commanded in these verses: Which wealth, property and other entire things of the world We have bestowed to different classes and given them opportunity and authority to reap advantage from them, such worldly things themselves do not have any importance. These things are a means of the trial of those people. We have made these things; beauty of the world, so that We may observe that “whether the people fear their Lord or go astray by falling in love with apparent form of the worldly things?”

O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him): You and your followers should not incline with strong desire and envy unto wealth and worldly things, because there is a fear of being careless from the actual Pastimes after falling in love of these things. We have caused to hear you the circumstances of ancient people. They forgot actual works after being amorous in the prosperity of this world. They did not meditate in Praised Epithets of Allaah Almighty. Instead of being engaged in Allah’s Praise and being thankful to Him due to His Favors, they began to engage in amusements and fulfill their wishes unreasonably. Then behold! What was their end? Bad presage of their evil deeds bloomed, even that its bad result was produced plentifully upon them in the world, as well as they deserved the torment of the Day of Resurrection in addition. You should escape from worldly lust and greediness, and begin to correct your manners and deeds.
