34. She said: Lo! Kings,
when they enter a township, ruin it and make the honour of its people shame.
And thus will they do.
35. And lo! I am going
to send a present unto them, and to see with what (answer) the messengers
return.

Commentary
‘A-‘izzatan – this word is plural of ‘Aziiz,
which means “respected, honored”.
‘Azillatun – it is plural of Zaliil, which
means “humbled, worthless, disesteemed”.
‘Al-mursaluuna – (plural of mursal), mursal
means “a messenger, a courier who is sent toward any other for conveying a
message”.
The Queen of Sheba “Bilqiis” heard the conversation of
her Courtiers. If she were an ignorant, she would have become a boaster that “I
myself am a ruler. None can command upon me”. She had understood from the
letter which she received that it was not written by any customary King. She was
commanded that she should embrace Islam. She was not a child who could not
understand the meanings of Islam. She understood and understood correctly that
the Writer of the letter was appointed by Allaah Almighty for the
guidance of the human beings, otherwise he (peace be upon him) would not have
sent the message with such boldness. She thought deeply and rightly that “neither
she should disclose her obedience immediately and nor invite the war by
violence”. She began to say: When any King enters
a city along with his Army, he ruins it, and renders the honored of its people
humbled. People are beaten severely. Rich people become bankrupt. She said: I
suggest that I should send to them some precious gifts by means of the
messengers who should judge pomp of that person who sent this letter, and I should
wait here for that with what reply the messengers will return.
