Commentary
ZarabNaa ’alaaa ‘aazaa-nihim – (We sealed up their hearing), the word zarabNaa is past tense
from zarbun, which means “to beat, to hurt, to drive away, to keep
down”. Here it aims “to seal up hearing; (by which the infants go to sleep),
that is to say, We put them to sleep.
One story from the stories of the Jews used to
cause to hear the people since old times that some young men of a township flew
from their houses and went into mountains for living; during past due to any reason.
There, with them some such thing was happened that they could not return unto
township. About them, different strange stories were in circulation. There was
no reasonable purpose of telling those stories but amusement only.
The Jews exited the Idolaters of Makkah that
they should ask from the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon
him) about the circumstances of those disappeared people. If He (grace, glory,
blessings and peace be upon him) described those strange circumstances, then
they should ask about the answers of some more questions. (They told two more
questions which have been discussed in the past). Holy Qur’an has
informed about the circumstances of those disappeared people, and according to
its particular way of narration, all useless matters have been omitted and only
such matters have been explained which are useful for mankind’s learning. And
It has prevented from investigating into further circumstances; because that is
useless.
It is commanded: Give up useless discussion on
their number and tenure of sleeping because that is not fruitful. You should
know only that those were some young men who rose from sleep for short period;
after a long duration and then slept again. What will you do after knowing that
how many they were in numbers and how much time they spent in sleeping
condition? They left every thing for the Cause of Allah Almighty and He put
them to sleep comfortably. After that they awoke and slept again.
