And when they had gone further, he said unto his young companion:
Bring us our breakfast. Verily we have found fatigue in this our journey.

He said: Didst thou see, when we took refuge on the rock, and I forgot
the fish – and none but Satan caused me to forget to mention it – it took its
way into the waters by a marvel.

Commentary
‘Away-naaa – (we took
refuge, we stayed), it is past tense from ‘a-wa-ya. ‘Ayyun means “to
make place, to stay at any place”.
When from the actual place, where the
fish had been disappeared, they went far away, then Prophet Moses (peace be
upon him) said to his young companion: Let us take something. We have been
tired on the go. Then it came to the mind of the young companion that the fish
has been lost, because the food was in the Tiffin Carrier where the fish was
also placed. Therefore, as soon as the name of food was spoken, the fish, how it
came to life and took its way into the waters by a marvel, came in his mind.
He informed the Messenger Moses (peace
be upon him): Behold! I forgot entirely about the fish when we stayed near the
rock for taking some rest. Satan made me careless as much that I could not
mention the fish. That came out from the Tiffin Carrier itself being alive and moved
into the Sea. I was surprised that how strangely it made its way to go into the
waters.
