Commentary

Salaquu – (they scold, they insult),

‘Alsinatin – (tongues), this word is plural of lisaan.

Hidaadin – (sharp), it is plural of hadiid, which is an Adjective, derived from hiddatun. Hiddatun means “sharpness”. Hadiidun means “a sharp thing which cuts”.

It was commanded previously: At the time of fear and danger, the faces of the Hypocrites become deadly pale and it seems that they are near to die.

In this verse it is commanded: When fear of war departs; then they begin to rebuke and find faults with sharp tongues, because they are greedy for wealth from the spoil and for this purpose; they begin to show their false history of bravery and reproach others that they did nothing.

It is commanded: Their hearts are entirely unbelievers; accordingly their deeds are worthless in the Court of Allaah Almighty. Every work of a disbeliever is of no avail. It is very easy for Allaah Almighty to do so, whereas they did nothing save trembling only due to fear. And the Armies of the Infidels ran away but they are still in doubt.
