53a. O Ye who believe!
Enter not the dwellings of the Prophet for a meal without waiting for the
proper time, unless permission be granted you. But if ye are invited, enter,
and, when your meal is ended, then disperse. And linger not for conversation.

Commentary
‘Inaa – (moment, time for being prepared)
Way of meeting with one another has been caused to understand to
the Muslims in this verse. Its origin should be on this matter that any other
should not be harmed and nor any problem should be created for anyone else. It
has been described in it that dwelling place of a mankind is like a place of
retirement, in which he performs such works which should not be intervened by
any other. If any such place does not remain for the mankind then he would have
to face many troubles.
It is commanded: It is unlawful to enter any other’s house
fearlessly without permission and any proper reason. You should not rush;
particularly in the houses of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace
be upon him) as and when you desire, but you should enter then when you are permitted for a meal. Moreover, you should not reach
there before time so that you may wait for the readiness of the meal. But when
you are invited, then you should enter; and when you have eaten, then you
should disperse without seeking to remain for conversation because you like to
talk and do not like to get out. Usually the houses are small and it is not
suitable for the guests to reach before time and begin talking after
taking meal.
