Commentary
Ta-wallaw – (you will turn away), this word is from ta-wallii.
Actual form of it is tata-wallawna. First ta is left in speaking,
and na from its end has been dropped due the ‘in, used before
this word. Tawallaa means “to turn away”. It has many other meanings
also, however, here it aims the same. This word has been used earlier too.
Yas-takh-lifu – (will set in place of you), it is from ‘is-takh-laafa,
which has been derived from khalafa. Khalafa means locum-tenens,
substitute, one who succeeds another or temporarily acts for another. The word khaliifah,
which has also the same meaning, has come out from it too. ‘Is-takh-laafa
means “to appoint someone else at one’s appointment”.
Prophet Hud (peace be upon him) said to his nation: If you will
not refrain from your wicked deeds and turn away from Allah Almighty, then
there is no incorrectness of mine. You will be settled with punishment. I have
caused to hear you that Message, wherewith I was sent by God Almighty unto you.
Your manners are wrong, so I fear that you will be removed from the world and
Allah Almighty will set in place of you another folk. You cannot harm Him, but
will harm yourselves. He is Guardian of all things; and certainly will arrange
to protect us. His obedient servants suffer no injury, but the disobedient are
crushed. Alas! You do not fear from the wrath of such Omnipotent and Powerful.
Your hobbies of day and night are of such kind, which are not liked by Him. It
seems that adversity has been hovering over your heads.
